🛞 Ever wonder what all those numbers on the side of your tire mean?

A tire marked 265/70R17 is telling you several things:

• 265 - The tire width in millimeters
• 70 - The sidewall height as a percentage of the tire’s width
• R - Radial construction
• 17 - The wheel diameter in inches

You may also see a load index and speed rating after the tire size. Those numbers tell you how much weight the tire can safely carry and the maximum speed it is designed for.

Using the correct tire size matters for proper fit, handling, braking, and overall tire performance.

☀️ Your tires can age even when the tread still looks good.

Heat, sunlight, and everyday driving can cause the rubber to dry out, crack, and weaken over time. That means a tire may look fine at first glance but still be ready for replacement.

🛞 Is it time for new tires?

One quick way to check your tire tread is with a penny.

Place a penny into the tread with Lincoln’s head facing down. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, your tread is getting too low and it may be time to replace your tires.

Also watch for:
• Uneven tread wear
• Cracks or dry rot
• Bulges in the sidewall
• Tires that constantly lose air
• Reduced traction in the rain

Good tread helps your tires grip the road, especially during wet weather and emergency braking.
