Hello everyone, I'm going to be teaching a class on the basics of moped maintenance and problem diagnosis at my shop on Saturday, August 6 from 11 am to 5 pm. The class will cover how to perform all the routine maintenance for the most common types of mopeds including Puch, Tomos, Hobbit, Minarelli, French, and others. It will also include a introduction into how to diagnose simple issues that commonly occur on these types of bikes. There will be a comprehensive handout that goes along with the class that will explain most of the most common questions while acting as a companion to the class itself. This will be the Saturday before Blood Drive X so that everyone can have a chance to go through your own bikes before going up there. There will be plenty of time to answer any question you have and to get hands on experience performing everything discussed during the day. My shop is not very large so the total class size has to be limited so first people to contact me will get first slots. If there is enough interest I will have a second class on Sunday maybe. There will be a class registration fee of $15 per person due when you arrive when I will give you your pack for the day. If you are interested in this please email me at [email protected] and feel free to ask me about any questions or concerns you have. You will not need to bring your own tools as I will be supplying everything for the day. Thanks for reading and I hope to see some people there.

The best way to support racing is to show up and participate. The second best way is to make parts that allow those that race to have a fun time racing instead of fixing their bikes all weekend. And it is to the rare people that do both that I salute.

You know what you need to do. Summer is coming, you better be in the right mindset.

Just wanted to show this piece off before I sell it. Motobecane 50 VLC with a crate AV10, Savage MC11 white walls, eggshell blue paint, custom prismatic tank decals, factory locking gas cap, and that sweet french look.

Classic blasting at its finest. Puch E50, Polini kit, 15 Bing, points, 2-shoe, circuit pipe. I know there are plenty of faster setups but sometimes simple is perfect. Besides, that cool carb that sticks out really far uses lots of gas and I can't put the panels on.

This is the usual way a Tomos reminds you it's still a moped. By throwing a fit inside the transmission. Over and over again. Until you shoot the engine and put it out of its misery.

This is from the Flat Rate Master section from a factory Puch manual for any Maxi type frame bikes. On the left is what the job is and on the right is how long in minutes the factory thinks the job should take. Shops use these charts to charge the customer fairly for the same jobs. Problem is that most shops pay the mechanic by the billable hour and not by how many hours he works. And I feel for the poor soul that was required to replace an entire Maxi frame in 125 minutes or lose pay.

Protip: if you are not sure if you have an air leak spray the suspect area with soapy water, block the intake off, and crank the motor by hand. If it bubbles up or draws the water in then you have an air leak and should fix it.

These days bike companies atempt to design looks that harken back to the classic elagance they once had. This is the bike they are trying to be. Looking at you Ducati. (Also, they rated this bike factory at 20hp. Hahaha nope)
