During World War II, Porter’s WPA building housed prisoners of war! With local farmers short on workers, nearby Camp Gruber established smaller camps—including one in Porter—to help meet the need for agricultural labor.

Our little town has a connection to world history that many people may never have heard about! 🇺🇸

As of October 7th, we’ve sold 7,260 gallons of fuel at PFG of Porter since kicking off our October Fuel Up for Schools campaign!

🌊 DID YOU KNOW, PORTER?

The Arkansas River near Porter is part of a river system that travels nearly 1,500 miles across the United States before eventually joining the Mississippi River!

But here’s what makes it especially important to our area: the river and its floodplain helped create the rich, sandy soil that made the Porter area so productive for agriculture. 🌱

For generations, the river influenced where people farmed, traveled, settled, and built communities throughout this part of Oklahoma.

And when you look at the farms surrounding Porter today, you’re looking at a landscape that has been shaped by the Arkansas River for thousands of years.

Small town — but connected to one of the major river systems in America. 🇺🇸

❤️ THIS is what community looks like!

We recently bought a new 3-door cooler for the store, and getting it inside turned into a true community effort!

The supplier left it out in the parking lot, still bolted to the pallet. Before we knew it, our customers jumped in to help us get this beast off the pallet, and then some of our city folks stepped up and helped us get it safely inside the store.

It was one of those moments that reminded us why we love being part of this community. People saw that we needed a hand and simply stepped up—no hesitation, just neighbors helping neighbors.

A huge THANK YOU to every customer and community member who helped. We genuinely appreciate you! 🙏

And don’t worry… all that hard work wasn’t for nothing.

That big new cooler means even more ice-cold b**r and drinks for you to come back and buy from us. 😂🍺🥤

🌪️ DID YOU KNOW, PORTER?

More than 100 years ago, a tornado helped change the course of Porter’s history.

On March 15, 1919, a tornado struck near Porter, leaving 2 people dead and 25 injured, according to historical National Weather Service records.

The damage to the town was devastating.

The Oklahoma Historical Society reports that the tornado heavily damaged most of Porter’s store buildings, along with homes and other property. The economic losses were especially difficult because many residents did not have insurance.

Some families and business owners simply could not afford to rebuild.

Porter never fully regained the growth and momentum it had experienced before the disaster—but the community endured. Generations of families continued farming, operating businesses, raising families, and keeping Porter alive.

More than a century later, that resilience is still part of Porter’s story. ❤️
