Please visit us at http://www.evdrives.com/ The enthusiasm for electric power started when I (Carl Piehl) was just a little kid playing with an RC car. It occurred to me that if this little toy could run for ½ an hour on 4D batteries, then a full size car can do the same. At 14, with the help of my father, we converted a VW for town use. Now with the advent of lithium batteries, the future of electric power is sure to mature.

One of our customers did this fun project of converting a farm tractor to electric. He said the tractor has lots of power, but not a lot of range, which does not matter much on his small farm.

Some of the parts he got from us for this conversion are a D&D ES-84C-70 Motor, Alltrax DCX 500DCS controller, MZJ400 main contactor, a Curtis FP-6 foot pedal, cables and a DPI 48v battery charger.

You can see a video of it running on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AabNwdWmdAg

This 1.5" scale model railroad runs on 7.5" gauge track in North Carolina. The Blue Ridge Summit runs with an Alltrax controller we supplied, driving four axle mounted 20 amp motors with gearboxes. It uses 4-6 golf cart batteries at 24 volts. They have a half mile of track and sometimes have guests who bring their trains and have had up to six running at once. I bet it is fun for everyone to ride! See more pictures at their website: http://www.wilkes.net/~ratfink/brsr.htm

The World Solar Challenge started today in Australia. It's a solar car race. There are 42 teams from 24 countries entered. They will travel 1864 miles, from Darwin to Adelaide, and are only allowed enough battery storage for about 10% of their power, the rest of the energy comes from the sun.

Our friend Noah created this fantastic electric motorcyle from a 1993 Suzuki GSX-R 1100. To get the project going he started out with a D&D Motor from us and an Alltrax controller (he has since upgraded his system again). You can read much more about the entire build on his website at: www.gsx-e.com and see some videos here: http://www.youtube.com/user/noahpodolefsky?feature=watch

Instead of upgrading your electric golf cart, how about a $58,000 hovercraft golf cart?

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s…a flying golf cart? That’s what upscale retailer Hammacher Schlemmer is promising with its Golf Cart Hovercraft.

Fifty feet long, displacing twenty tons, this boat is cruising all the way around Florida, a 1200 mile journey, powered only by the sun! The owner, Carter, is an engineer, with much solar contracting experience, and a veteran of the Coast Guard, so this project and adventure is right up his alley.

For the conversion to solar power he used one of our conversion kits with an Alltrax DCX500 controller, D&D ES-84C-70 motor, and he upgraded to a DPI battery charger. http://www.evdrives.com/product_p/ck-84c-1.htm
