A bumper that's been hit looks like a cosmetic problem. Most of the time it's more than that — and finding out later costs significantly more than finding out now.
Here's what most people don't know. Behind the outer bumper cover sits an energy absorber and in many cases a reinforcement bar connected to the vehicle's frame. These components work together in a collision to protect everything behind them — the radiator, the headlights, the frame itself, and the people inside. When they're damaged, that protection is reduced. And damaged reinforcement components don't show up on a visual inspection.
