McCarthy) is a deaf man in his late fiftis who started this bussiness to repair cars. there is a guy named Jerry McCarthy in Pleasanton California with a Porsche body /repair shop called Rennsport Vintage Werks. the owner is a deaf man, in his mid fifties. I trusted him with my 356C and he ruined it,
He tried to repair my rusty door bottoms that were number matching perfect fit, but they did not
fit any longer, infact one door was about 1/2 to 3/4 inch fatter than the other when he got done, and both stuck out from the car body even with no hinge shims used. He tried for weeks to fix it, but always had excuse as to why he had not time to work on my doors. part of the problem is I trusted him at first and pre-paid the bill. (ok stupid me, I trusted the guy, and fronted him some money. when the doors did not fit, he hid that fact and left them uninstalled and moved on to the nose, i paid for the doors before i saw the fit was wrong)
when working on the outer nose skin on my car, he went ahead with no authorization and cut out with a plasma cutter the entire battery box on my car. when i asked him why he did it, he told me he thought it was hanging down too low, but admited it was actually ok, his mistake. after several months of him trying to fix that damage, he told me he would pay only for half of a new Trevors battery box, but he has paid nothing. (lied about having money to pay me)
when I went to see him (arranged appointment at noon) he shows up late, then tells me he needs lunch, and goes off to his office to eat, (and surf the net) after cooling my heals he then tells me he needs to run a quick errand to buy a can of carb cleaner from a store about 2-3 blocks away, he is gone for near half an hour, and tells me he was delayed cuase he decided to drop off his bottles recycling. he then starts to work on my car, but excuses himself to the bathroom, he comes out 15 minutes later stinking like pot and all red eyed, then tells me he cant work on my car anymore. thats not all, He also had my 914 in his shop, he ended up droppng something very heavy on the front fender, denting it. I discover it and he says he'll take care of it. little did I know he also crashed in the rear fender. A few days later i look at the 914 from the other end and see a crease, I gently push on the fender and it pops in, he had pushed it in (oil canned it) and pulled it out, and did not tell me. he tells me it happened when he was moving cars around, and he will fix it,
He never fixed anything he broke, and never paid me for the $1000 battery box he destroyed while in a stoned state of mind. Over the last few months he has promised to pay some of the money he owes, but nothing has been paid. he claims he will pay me when the state pays him back pay from his other teaching job from which he was fired. all told I am out near $10,000 in damages and money paid to him
at anyrate avoid Jerry McCarthy of Pleasanton CA at Rennsport Vintage Werks. he has been known to do work on the side, so watch out for him. You will reconize him as he is deaf, but he can hear a bit. he is highly dangerous to your pocket book and car. I am at wits end with this guy and his stories. dont trust him with any car. PS he claims to be the son of the famous Gerald McCarthy of KAM motors fame. still uses his dad's name to advertise himself. I have no experience with his Dad's bussiness, but he sure has soiled the family name. he also did damage to my friends 72 VW convertible, screwed up the window mechanism and ruined the heater duct under the seat. one more rip off under his belt.
