As mechanics, we see engines suffer from both ends of this spectrum, people wasting money on gas they don't need, and people cheaping out on engines that desperately require the good stuff.

Here is the straightforward truth:

🔍 What’s the Actual Difference?

The only real difference between regular and premium fuel is the octane rating (typically 87 for regular and 91–93 for premium).

• Octane is just resistance: It doesn't mean the fuel is "stronger," "cleaner," or packed with secret energy.

It simply measures how well the fuel resists premature detonation (engine knock) under high heat and pressure.

🚫 The Big Myth: Premium makes any car run better

If your car’s owner's manual calls for regular 87-octane gas, putting premium in it will do absolutely nothing for you.
