Breaking news from our own backyard on South Street. π The βreserveβ is open for business, and yes, weβve seen the test bags. Tell us: how many bags is too many?
PITTSFIELD, MASS. β With Halloween more than two weeks away, an area man has begun what he calls his "strategic candy acquisition" at the Lipton Market on South Street, acknowledging under questioning that most of it will not reach a single trick-or-treater.
The man, who sources confirm bought his first bag "in late September, to be safe," defended the early start. "You don't want to be scrambling on the 30th like some kind of amateur. You stock early, you stock deep," he said, adding a second bag to the cart. "Is some of it for me? Obviously. I'm not going to hand out candy I haven't personally verified."
Witnesses report the man has already opened "a test bag," described the process as "quality control," and begun referring to his candy supply as "the reserve." He is said to have a system β "one bag for the kids, one bag for inventory" β and to have conceded that the ratio "has been drifting."
Asked how many trick-or-treaters he actually receives, the man grew evasive, estimated "a few, historically," and confirmed he had already made a mental note to "restock the fun-size before the big night." He then selected a third bag, explaining it was "a different kind, for balance."
The trick-or-treaters could not be reached for comment. There may, he admitted, not be many.
