1968 Triumph TR250

Another rare car -- made about 8,400 total units. This one has had a complete body off restoration. Every panel has been stripped to insure no rust ever existed. The frame was selected among three frames that I had. One additional perfect frame is included in the sale. The frame was stripped and coated with several coats of epoxy paint. All bushings on the suspension has been replaced. The front shocks are uprated and the rear shocks are now Spax which replaced the terrible lever arm shocks.

The body has been painted arrest me red 8 coats with at least 4 coats of clear. The front stripe is painted the correct silver. The body on this car is straight as an arrow! New chrome wire wheels and redline tires are at all four corners along with the spare tire. This beauty has an original Surrey top with the vinyl beach top as an added extra feature. There is also the original convertible top bow and vinyl top included.

The engine was rebuilt using a fast road cam to accommodate the triple Weber installation. A new aluminum radiator and stainless shroud was installed. The radiator hoses are the original green type, The engine is fresh with all new components, water pump, etc. An MSD and Petronix ignition along with a sport coil adds to the reliability.

The interior has a new wood dash and wood Moto Lita steering wheel. The glove box door is replaced with an aluminum clad face which the rally stop watches and rally light are mounted (the original matching door is included). The radio AM/FM/CD is located in the glove box to accommodate the added gauges, indicator lights, fog lamp switch, fan switch etc. A 4 point roll bar is added for safety if rallying is your thing. The transmission has been uprated to an overdrive unit. Additional fuse box and relays have been added for the driving lights, OD Transmission, fans etc. An electric fuel pump feeds the webers along with stainless steel braided hoses and AN fittings.

I’ve restored 8 of these and sold them all to happy customers.

Another fantastic year of racing! The MGB ran great!

At the Pit Historics, in a mixed group, we placed 7th overall and, by my estimation ,1st in class.

The same thing at Schenley, 6th overall and 1st in class. It’s a little tough trying to beat a 911 and Lotus Elan.

Finished for the year and starting to back it down a bit. The MGB will be sold (I hope) in the off season. If not, 2018 looks good!

Recap of the 2016 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix:

The MGB ran extremely well at the 2016 PVGP. Although the classes seem a bit off, I was able to finish 7th in a highly competitive race. Competing against twin cams, 6 cylinders, the MGB was still in the top running order.

I received my Legends Patch for 20 years of competing at the PVGP.

Fun was had by all those who attended. The crowd for the weekend exceeded 200,000!! WOW!!!

Last weekend at Pitt Race was 50% successful. The MGB ran like a clock, and in a 50 car field, I finished 15th. It was my first time on the track, which is a very technical race course. My best time of the weekend in my little 1798 cc motor was 2.119! Not bad since I started the weekend with a 2.156!

Now for the bad news. The TVR was blistering fast and my son, Chris, was gridded 4th but had the fastest time of the weekend! Since we continue to engineer the TVR we believe are last issue is now confronting us. The heavy duty splined shafts are just not heavy duty enough! Most likely we will need to design and fabricate a better shaft to withstand the torque the engine is putting out.

This coming up weekend is the PVGP at Schenley Park. My personal goal is to attempt to have a podium finish. Sunday will tell all!

Mid-Ohio last weekend couldn’t have had better weather. The sun gods cooperated!

The MGB did not make the race since I was not finished with the engine rebuild until this week in preparation for PVGP.

The TVR Tuscan, which is now a V8 was more than ready. The car ran extremely well and lap times were in the top 4 of fast times. The all Shelby race we finished 4th overall. The second qualifier was our demise. The passenger rear half shaft universal joint failed on the last lap while running 2nd. We are now upgrading the half shafts and u-joints. We hope to make Pitt Race in two weeks.

By the way our number one fan, Mick Ludeke, was at the track cheering us on!! He got the opportunity to run a few fast laps in a Corvette with Tony Pirella, the president and CEO of SVRA. His smile was so broad it almost broke the helmet!!

Here was my weekend....

We arrived at Summit Point Raceway last Thursday morning -- test day.

The V8 Tuscan we just finished the build on was raring to go! My son, Chris, was driving the Tuscan and encountered a few teething problems. We need to fabricate a temporary shroud around the radiator, something we didn’t have time to do in the shop. This helped the water temperature, but we realized the oil cooler was too small for the 302! Chris finished in the top 5 in all heats with a car that was 99% complete.

My MGB and I had a bonding weekend. First session and only 50 yards down the track the hood blew up and over breaking my race wind screen, mirror and smacking me on the head! No sense was pounded in my head, but the helmet did its job!

In all my heats I finished in the top 7, running 4th in the last session (an idiot hit me from behind on the last lap -- some people get the red mist too often!).

All in all we had fun! We ate well, drank great wines and smoked some Cubans! Ci**rs!!

1965 Sunbeam Tiger

I purchased this car from a long-time owner (second I believe). I have too many projects and don’t want this to sit in a corner for 5 years.

These cars are getting harder to find and are increasing in value every day.

This past weekend at VIR, SVRA presented an award for the best race of the year to my son, Chris Zappa! His driving ability and racing prowess demonstrated at the Mid-Ohio SVRA event was recognized by SVRA as the best race this year. This race was not for first place, but a fender-to-fender race for many laps for 3rd and 4th positions. At the finish line both Group 8 cars were even but the slight edge went to his competitor. Vintage racing is not about being first all the time, it's about demonstrating a spirit that safe, gentlemanly driving that makes vintage racing fun!

I’m proud of Chris’s continued ‘Hot Shoe’ racing, and as a father, it makes me feel that my wife and I raised a good boy and a darn fast racer!!

Way to go, son!
