Between the Atlantic Ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Cape Fear River that runs further inland, our area is at risk for flooding in the case of heavy rainfall. And now that we are officially in hurricane season (which runs until November), it's more important than ever to make sure you're protected.​​​​​​​​

Reach out to your insurance company and make sure your policy includes flood insurance. If it doesn't, you don't want to wait to buy it. Many flood policies don't go into effect until 30 days after you make your payment and sign the application, so bump this to the top of your to-do list to avoid being caught unprepared this year.

Many clients come armed with a number from a website with a high and low price range that can exceed $100,000! Those figures are created using an algorithm that won’t factor in recent improvements to your home or neighborhood. What about the location of your home on the street, the new bathroom you added last month, the new park or bike trail that’s opened nearby, or the new school located just a block away?

A real estate agent who’s visited your home and knows the surrounding neighborhoods like the back of his or her hand is your best source. More things to consider: You may also live in a neighborhood where sales have started to slow. Or your house may have qualities that are unique to your neighborhood. In those cases, there may not be comparable sales in your neighborhood and that can significantly skew your estimate.

One of the common worries of an all-white bed is if it can stay all-white when sharing with pups and pets. I have some tricks for keeping your white bedding white!

First, if you see a large paw print or a stain, try washing it off with a wet washcloth and regular soap as quick as possible.

Wash your sheets and bedding every week with hot water and a mild detergent to release any residual stains.

If the stains won’t go away, use OxiClean as a last resort to remove any unwanted spots. (Tip: make sure to wash your sheets without bleach because it can break down the fibers of the sheets and eventually cause pilling.)
