Another engine finished up this week for a roadrace car. We originally did this engine a couple years ago. It took the customer a while to complete the build/upgrades on the car done at the same time, then shortly after a successful dyno session, the engine overheated badly on the track.

Just like the bottom end, the LS7 heads needed considerable work to repair the damage so they were sent to the cylinder head company that did the original work to them. New Ti valves held up progress for a good long while, and .012" was cut to get the surfaces nice and flat again.

Once the heads were back in our hands, we proceded to install them just to have one fastener seemingly unable to reach the 80 lb/ft torque spec. Assuming the threads in the aluminum block were about to fail, I installed a Time Cert insert only to still have an issue torqing that fastener.

With further examination of the cylinder head itself at this point, we noticed that the bolt hole was stretched, or becoming an oval! The head casting was distorted from the extreme heat, and the face of the hole where the nut/washer meets the head was not sqaure to the deck. Basically, the nut/washer was trying to slip off the head, flexing the stud and stretching the hole in the process! We faced all the bolt holes.... problem solved.

Show your paw daddy! Double rollers and Double Humps?

This is a sweet 383 for a customers 69 Camaro. Roller cam conversion with Trick Flow 'double hump' heads.

Lots of time spent with the paint can, and lots of little time consuming details on these old engines, but man they look so good!

DSS 4032 pistons, and Eagle forged rods and crank with a rowdy JAC spec, Comp ground camshaft.

Just a friendly reminder that we will do machine work for individuals and other shops that want to assemble their own engines.

In fact, we NEED machine work only customers!! The guys in the shop are getting machine work done at a much faster rate than I can handle all the assembly work. They are basically caught up while I have probably two months worth of assembly work stacked up.

The 'ol Rottler F65 is pumping. We offer cnc decking of blocks and heads, cnc boring or sleeve installation. We can line bore on the Rottler as well, and have a few programs for stroker clearancing!

Want Top Fuel hoops installed? We got you! Larger lifter bores or bushings? Yes, sir!

We have torque plates for SBC, LS/LT, BBC, BBF, and SBF. If we dont have them for your domestic V8, we will get them. We have diamond stones for bore sizes ranging from Coyote to big big blocks. If we dont have them, we will get them.

We can pressure test heads, polish cranks, balance rotating assemblies, or even just clean your block and install a set of cam bearings.

And while we are mainly focusing on GM/Chevy v8 platforms followed by other domestic v8's, if you are a shop needing volume work done on some other application, try me... I hate saying no, lol.

Rock Solid Motorsports

First of all, I want to thank God for a safe outing with the car. No question that our sport is not the safest thing to do in the world even though we have the best safety equipment the market has to offer.

Secondly I want to thank my wife and the guys at Rock Solid Motorsports for coming out to helping do whatever was needed at the track as well as put up with my personality change whenever I get in the zone 🤣.

Thirdly I want to thank JA Competition TKM Performance FuelTech USA Bullseye Power Turbochargers PTSFab Tick Performance for the support and advice on our program going into this season so far. We have so many more that are involved with this car but these people have been there to answer quick questions and bounce ideas off of on the fly to help us get to where we are now.

I think the next step will be to step up the rear suspension game a little bit and quit trying to go so fast on off the shelf budget parts. I need to get some rear shocks that are more suited for handling this kind of power. Also i need to always improve my driving game. I'm kicking myself now for not utilizing my line lock to keep me from rolling through the beams as the clutch got a little bit too warm on the two-step. Before the next outing, that will definitely be rearranged in the car where I can incorporate that into my staging. I am very pleased with the Stroud Safety dual 430-24s that I put on the car since last outing. The ECU recorded 210mph when the parachutes caught air and the car was very stable. Really didn't even have to use the brakes. It definitely made me feel a lot more secure reaching these speeds. I don't know how it feels in other cars, but with mine being so narrow and so short, the stability is one of the most crucial things for me trying to put this much speed and power in a little chassis.

Thank you Braggin Rights for putting on such a great event that seemingly ran flawless as far as the schedule. Even though it was a little bit hot, most of the complaints that you hear from people at events is how slow everything is going, but not here. Nate and his crew kept things moving along nicely. Even though the last day the track went away a little bit for E1 it was great all the other times even in the heat enough to get plenty of data and a new PB for the car.

We look forward to running this event again next year. 💪💪

Stay tuned for the many photos and videos that will come from the event in the days ahead.
