I fell in love with cars at a young age, and by the time we moved to the Chicago area for my 8th grade year, nearly every square inch of the walls and ceiling in my room were covered in car posters.
However, there were three specific cars I came in contact with during my high school era (1990-1994) that would have the biggest impact on me. The Ferrari 512TR, the Porsche 964 RS America, and the 1993 Mustang SVT Cobra. (There was a guy who lived within a bike ride away who owned a Lamborghini Countach, Acura NSX, Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4, and a Dodge Viper, all red, which were also epic, but I never met him so it wasn’t quite the same level of fascination as the first three cars were).
The SVT Cobra was the most approachable, and I used to visit Packey Webb Ford on a regular basis just to walk around the car in the parking lot and drool. At one point during my senior year I somehow convinced one of the salesmen that my parents were “probably buying me a Mustang for graduation” and he let me drive a brand new black ‘93 LX 5.0. The sound, the torque, the angled stick shift… I was in heaven. But, it still wasn’t the elusive SVT Cobra, which was strictly reserved for non storytellers. I would have to keep dreaming.
The opportunity to find a one-owner all original ‘93 SVT Cobra, with only 14K original miles is about as rare as you would expect, especially with the more desirable cloth interior (the leather they installed in these cars got saggy and gross looking quickly, while the tweed held up great).
Excited to bring this one to market next week! And, if it doesn’t happen to sell? Well, that’s okay too. Just listen for the sound of that 5.0 with some Van Halen as the perfect backdrop.
