So some unsettling statistics came out late yesterday. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the top 2 cars stolen in the United States are again the Honda Civic (2nd most with 47,037 stolen) and Accord (1st with 58,596 stolen), with the Acura Integra in the top 10 ( #8). Here are 5 basic tips to prevent your car from being added to this list.

1. Always make sure you lock your doors, hide any valuables left in the vehicle (the trunk is a good place), especially electronics, take your keys with you, and park as close to a business as possible. If you have an SUV invest in a cargo cover. Make sure to visit our site for amazing deals on genuine OEM ones.

2. Carry your insurance card and registration with you. A car thief may turn into a burglar if they have personal information like your address.

3. Invest in a good alarm system, and have it installed by a reputable installer. Things like tilt sensors, seismic sensors, and back up batteries are great ways to help make a car thieves life much harder. Most insurance companies even give you a discount for having them!

4. Invest in mechanical locking devices, Things like the Club, J-Bars, and pedal locks will deter novice thieves and give seasoned car thieves a lot of trouble, and the more the better. Again insurance companies love when you have these things.

5. If you have a garage, use it. If not, make sure if you have a FWD vehicle to park forward, and if you have a RWD vehicle to back in, and always use the e-brake when parked. This will make it harder for thieves with tow trucks to simply drive away with your vehicle.
