Founder Bill Hughes, Sr. began the humble beginnings of this company in a small shop that rebuilt OEM torque converters. Bill's son Jim Hughes took interest in the design and engineering of torque converters for racing purposes. Jim's involvement in the company took Hughes Performance to the next level, and resulted in a dynamic change within the company that quickly elevated Hughes Performance to

the upper echelon of high performance and racing torque converter manufacturing. The time came for Hughes to jump into the transmission side of the industry. Enter Bill's son Jeff Hughes. With Jeff's in-depth understanding of automatic transmission function as well as his machining abilities Hughes Performance enjoyed immediate success in the high performance and racing transmission market. Today Hughes Performance employs over 40 people and continues to proudly manufacture the finest torque converters and transmissions currently available in the aftermarket.

Huge shoutout to Hughes customer George Benson () on resetting the Cadillac CTS-V record and once again reclaiming his crown 👑 as the worlds quickest and fastest CTS-V with a blistering 7.15 @ 208MPH 😳

With short track testing days after this record-setting run George was able to improve on the cars 60’ time getting it down into the 1.16s, making that illusive 6 second pass that much closer.

Making these feats all the more impressive is this was done at a race weight of 3900 POUNDS 💪

Our new Gen3 supercharged Coyote drop-in package is insane; this is a Stage 1 package, meaning it’s an absolute daily driver package. This one surprised me. The package utilizes variable valve timing and has both direct injection and port injection. What a complex package to get sorted out! But the result is spectacular: a 5.0-liter engine making over 1000 hp on 91 octane at 7700 rpm, with valvetrain reliability as good as the factory units. If you’re looking for a drop-in Coyote, this package is amazing.

🔶 What do you enjoy most about working at Hughes Performance?
- The Freedom and Support from the Hughes Family to turn my wild ideas into reality. Like, being able to come into work with an idea drawn on the back of a napkin and being able to ultimately turn that idea into a product we’ve brought to market time and time again is really cool.

🔶 What’s your favorite project or accomplishment at Hughes Performance?
- Too many to list! Obviously making it 35 years is a big one, but every converter I’ve ever designed/engineered/built holds a special place in my heart.

🔶 Outside of work, what are your hobbies or interests?
-Wrenching on my 1965 Chevy C10, taking the powerboat out on the water and spending the day on the lake, camping with my friends and family

Fun Facts:

🔷 Rich once built/respec’d a converter for Nissan after their proving grounds testing came back with less-than ideal data for an upcoming model year vehicle

🔷 Outside of being one of the best converter builders in the industry, Rich is also a master cook who regularly likes to feed us here at the shop 😋
