A car that drifts left or right is doing something most people never think about. It is telling you its geometry is off.

Think about a screen door that only sticks in summer. The frame swells just a fraction of an inch and suddenly nothing lines up. Your suspension works the same way. A pothole, a hard curb, even normal wear over thousands of miles can shift your wheel alignment by a degree or two and now every tire is dragging at a slightly different angle, pulling you sideways, chewing through rubber unevenly, making the steering wheel sit crooked even on a straight road.

The fix is usually straightforward.

What gets expensive is waiting, because misalignment doesn't stay a small problem. It becomes tires worn out thousands of miles early, it becomes steering components under stress they were never meant to handle, it becomes a bigger bill born from a smaller signal you could have caught sooner.

A rough idle is almost never the engine itself dying on you, it's usually one vacuum line that cracked and now the computer can't hold the air-fuel mixture where it belongs.

We pull these off and they're brittle, sometimes split right at the connector where heat from the manifold bakes them for 80,000 miles.

Takes about fifteen minutes to find with a smoke test.

Could also be a coil pack or a dirty throttle body, but nine times out of ten on the cars we see it's that dried-out rubber nobody thinks to check. Left alone it'll start throwing codes and the idle gets worse in cold weather when everything contracts, so better to catch it now while it's still a small job.

Nine times out of ten that's the window regulator, not the motor. People always assume the motor is dead because nothing happens when they hit the switch going up, but the motor is usually still spinning away down there with nothing to grab onto. The regulator is basically a set of cables or gear tracks that physically move the glass, and when one snaps or strips out the window drops like a rock and just sits there.

The motor works harder going up than coming down. Gravity is doing half the job on the way down so a weak regulator can still limp along in one direction for a while before it finally gives out completely.

Could also be a tired switch or a bad ground, both easy to check.

We see this constantly once cars hit about eight or nine years old, especially on driver's side because that window gets ten times the use. It's not a complicated fix but you do have to pull the door panel and get inside there carefully because that glass will slide right off and crack if you're not supporting it. Worth getting done before you're stuck in a rainstorm with a garbage bag duct-taped over your door.
