ASMA Round 8 Race recap
First of all I am happy to announce that we are continuing amazing relationship with BellissiMoto as our main sponsor for southwest winter club racing series in 2024 and 2025. Randy Nedescu and the whole Bellisimoto crew are amazing and they are real pros in what they do. They retail and distribute best products in motorcycle industry and they listen to their customers. Over the past three years I have received an amazing amount of financial and technical support from them and I can honestly say that my race program would not be possible without their help. With their help I won Chuckwalla Valley Motorcycle Association Formula 40 championship in 2022 and 2023, CVMA Supersport Championship in 2023 and CVMA Formula open championship in 2022. These results require a lot of effort, money and time. Thanks to Bellissimoto we never missed a race weekend in 3 years.
Now let’s get to racing !!!! As mentioned in earlier post we opened our winter race series with a cycling time trial event which was fun but ended with a flat tire and a win has slipped through my grasp. Well all that was corrected once we got on board the motorcycle. Clean sweep at ASMA Races at Podium Club - Pole Position and Race wins in Formula Arroyo, Formula 40 and Unlimited superbike.
We arrived with Pearce Baker on Thursday night in order to start practice on Friday bright and early. First laps after the summer break were depressing at the least. I believe my first laps were around 1.45 mark. After a few dark minutes in the pits where I was thinking if I should pack up and go home and never ride a bike again I got back out and things started falling into place.
By end of the day which was around 11:30 am thanks to Arizona weather :) I was down to 1.34s This is 2 seconds of my PR from last season and we could officially declare that the winter cobwebs are shaken off.
Saturday came and with it the ASMA crew and the trackday was on. We worked mostly on consistency and proper riding and got to low 1.34s pace by the time qualifying session began. I was aiming for 1.33 lap in qualifying but I was not able to achieve that due to heat and exhaustion by the end of the day. Anyway my lap was good enough for pole.
As most of you know grids in ASMA are determined by championship standings and only Formula Arroyo is gridded based on qualifying. Unlimited superbike and Formula 40 race I started mid pack and that provided for fun action. This was much needed since lapping by yourself and doing close race action are two different things. I pleasantly surprised myself with how aggressive and clean my overtakes were. In both races I went from mid pack to P2 by turn 2. From there onwards I needed a few laps to reel in and get by Dan Dickermanand Roger Heemsbergen. Dan gave me a run for my money and got by me on the front straight and held his own into turn 2 and I had to do another bold move on the brakes into the keyhole and was able to stay up front from there. Full race videos are being uploaded to my Youtube channel as we speak. Formula Arroyo race I started from P1 but Roger had a better start and was leading into T1. I tried to get around him in the esses but was not close enough to make a move and had to check my speed. Sean Ungvarsky has used this to his advantage and made a very ballsy move into T5. We need to mention here Sean is riding an R7 and has to be aggressive in order to fight with big bikes. I pulled alongside him on the back straight but he broke a bit later and was not able to hold the line and ran off the track. From there on I was able to reel in Roger and get by him and stay in the lead comfortably for the rest of the race. Had a little moment into T1 on the brakes when bike went into false neutral but I was able to collect it and not loose too much time. In broad strokes this is how it all transpired.
Big thanks to my pit mate and friend Pearce Baker and his family. It was amazing to hang out and race together!
Big thanks to Jeremy D Sims. He crew chiefed for me and Pearce this weekend and it went great. His technical help and data insight was extremely helpfull and I am considering season long collaboration.
Big thanks to Dunlop Motorcycle Tires Jim Joyce Dale Kieffer . We got to test the new Dunlop R4 rear tire and results are amazing. We now have the performance of an R3 soft tire combined with longevity of an R8 hard compound and it worked in 107 degree weather. Can’t wait to try it out at CVMA.
Big thanks to our sponsor Ryder Gear
Big Thanks to our Sponsor PHX Ducati Official Club

Well here we go winter race season is starting ! But not with a bike race ! Since taking up cycling last spring I am finally ready for my first competition . Opening the season with 20K Time trial at San Diego Fiesta Island. Goal was top 5 in my age group. Based on the entry list looks like that goal is already achieved ( I know lame ). We will aim for top 3 than ! Currently my PR for 20K is 25.1 mph average. Main goal is to hit 26 mph average in the TT. Should be possible with cooler temps and elevation in San Diego compared to Arizona.
Next weekend bike race season will hit off with ASMA Races at Podium Club

CVMA 2023-2024 Winter Series Recap
Where do I begin… I think with big thanks !!!!!
Thanks to my wife for putting up with me pre and post race weekends. Depending on results I can be lots of fun to be around :) I love you Zu!
Thanks to CVMA and CVR stuff for cranking out these amazing club series and making them better each year!
Thanks to my main sponsor BellissiMoto. For years now Randy Nedescu and Bellissimoto are supporting our team financially and technically. Bellissimoto is a big distributor and retailer for all things motorcycle street and race side of things. They have gear, accessories, electronics, parts, tools and wheels. Most importantly they have most of their offerings on the shelf and you can’t beat that!
Thanks to Richard at for taking care of my bike in the shop and trackside. It’s our third season together and he intimately :) knows what I need from the bike and when I need it!

Thanks to Phoenix Ducati Official Club club for their support. Even though I am on a Yamaha now we have an 1199R twin joining our stable pretty soon and I will be able to represent Ducati colors again! Planning on doing some AHRMA Northeast events on that twin.
Thanks to Ryder Gear for the Ryder gear - pun intended. Was able to test their suit and airbag deployment in the last race of the last round on the last lap and in the you guessed it last corner!!!! All worked well!!!
Thanks to all tire vendors :)
I hope I am not missing anyone. Actually I am, Thanks to all friends and racers that make this sport so fun

Well the results ! I am still waiting to see it in stone but based on preliminary calculations we bagged Supersport Open and Formula 40 championship. Formula 40 championship is going home with us second year in the row. Pretty proud of it. First half of the season everything came my way. I was winning races in that class at will. We had two technical DNFs but other than that we were on the roll. However after the rained out rounds my competition took a step forward and I had to fight for it. Thanks to Mark Degross for keeping me honest and also Reid Edwards for coming out and playing with us and progressing so fast!!!!
Lap times .! Well I have a few mid to high 1.46s under my belt and when I am dialed in I can keep pace at 1.47s - low 1.48s in the races.
Highlight was round 5 when I was able to stay with Michael Gilbert and Nick Ciling for the whole race. The 1.46s breakthrough I have them to thank for! Basically we dropped a second in pace compared to last year. Doesn’t sound very impressive but I will take it. Big thing is I switched bikes mid season by jumping from a V4R to YZF R1. Ultimately was the right choice. Yamaha with KIT ECU is proper race tool. Ducati could be there but ultimately it is too much work and money to bring to that level.

A list of things to work on next year:
1. Getting up to speed quicker
2. Reference points
3. Letting off the brakes earlier
4. Getting on the gas smoother and earlier
5. Body position and body timing
6. Fitness

We are gearing up for Laguna Seca STOCK 1000 round and once we have that under the belt will consider if we will do more rounds this summer.

Oh yes and big thank to Sheldon and Rollo for supporting me at the track!!!!!!
