🚚 Vehicle Abatement Update 🚗

Over the weekend, Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Community Service Officers removed an abandoned 5th wheel trailer from the area of Cascade Court and Commerce Boulevard.

Abandoned and inoperable vehicles can create safety concerns, visibility hazards, sanitation issues, and quality of life impacts for nearby residents and businesses. While towing may seem straightforward, the vehicle abatement process is actually a lengthy process guided by state law and the Rohnert Park Municipal Code.

Before a vehicle can be removed, Community Service Officers and city staff must:
✔️ Investigate complaints and assess the vehicle
✔️ Attempt to identify and notify owners
✔️ Post required notices and timelines
✔️ Ensure the vehicle qualifies for abatement under municipal code
✔️ Determine whether anyone may be living inside the vehicle
✔️ Connect occupants with available services and resources when appropriate

Once towed, vehicles must often be stored for a legally required holding period while ownership and legal requirements are addressed. This can take up valuable space at local tow yards, and we appreciate our towing partners like Non-Stop Towing for assisting throughout the process.

Our goal is always to balance compassion, community safety, and compliance with the law.
