🚗⚡ Where we’re going, we don’t need roads... but in 1981, they sure needed assembly lines!

Production officially kicked off on the legendary DeLorean DMC-12 in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland! 🇮🇪✨

Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and brought to life by former GM executive John DeLorean, the DMC-12 was unlike anything on the road. With its unpainted, brushed stainless-steel body and iconic gull-wing doors, it looked like a spaceship landed right in the 1980s.

Though production was short-lived and faced its fair share of hurdles, the DMC-12 secured its spot in pop culture forever as Doc Brown's time machine in Back to the Future. ⏱️

If you could take a DeLorean time machine to any year in history, where would you go? Tell us in the comments! 👇

🏛️ On this day in 1949: A presidential move that reshaped road-building history!

Did you know the Bureau of Public Roads (the ancestor of today's Federal Highway Administration) once had a six-week stay in an agency that felt like "political musical chairs"?

It's a classic example of Washington re-org. First, the old Federal Works Agency was abolished. Then, the PRA was renamed the Bureau of Public Roads and quickly placed in the brand-new General Services Administration (GSA) on July 1.

But President Harry Truman wasn't finished. Under Reorganization Plan No. 7, the BPR was swiftly transferred again—this time to the Department of Commerce—less than two months later!

It holds the record for the shortest placement of the Agency under any roof. Talk about a "six-week summer vacation" at GSA!

📢 This Day in History: August 17, 1959

It was a night Bureau of Public Roads (Region 9) crews in Yellowstone National Park would never forget. At 11:37 p.m., the ground began to "shake, rattle, and roll" as a powerful earthquake (now known as the Hebgen Lake earthquake) struck the region. 🗺️🏔️

When the sun rose and crews began inspecting the damage, they found that all new Bureau of Public Roads construction projects—like the bridges over the Gibbon River—had sustained only minor damage, a testament to the engineering standards of the day.

However, the park's western roads, the hardest hit, were immediately closed by massive rockslides and slope debris. The historic event was a dramatic reminder of the sheer power of nature and the challenges faced by those who build and maintain infrastructure in our national parks. 🛠️🚗

🚗 On this day in 2009: The end of an iconic American brand.

At 6:51 PM PDT, the final Pontiac Vibe rolled off the assembly line at the NUMMI plant in Fremont, California—marking the end of an era for General Motors and Pontiac fans everywhere. 🏁

Built as part of a joint venture between GM and Toyota (alongside its twin, the Toyota Matrix), the Vibe was a surprisingly practical and beloved compact hatchback. But more importantly, that specific Vibe became the very last vehicle ever produced under the Pontiac nameplate before GM officially retired the legendary brand.

From the GTO and Trans Am to the Firebird and the Vibe, Pontiac gave us decades of bold design and American automotive history. 🚘💨
