Stories from Black Meadow Landing
Steven: Growing Up at Black Meadow Landing
For Steven, Black Meadow Landing wasn't just a place to visit. It was home.
His family moved to the resort in the summer of 1970, when his parents became managers. Steven spent his high school years living at Black Meadow, graduated from Parker High, attended Arizona Western College, and later returned to manage the store himself.
Looking back, Steven says those years were unforgettable.
"It was by far the best time of my life. Living there was like being on vacation 24/7, 365."
Although he eventually chose another career, Steven says he has often wondered what life would have been like had he stayed.
"Hindsight being 20/20, I wished I had stayed there, as nothing since has been as joyous as living in the resort."
Now preparing to celebrate his 70th birthday, Steven still thinks of Black Meadow Landing as home.
"I know that the resort has seen many changes in the 56 years since I moved there, but I will always think of it as home."
