The CPAT consists of eight events designed to measure the capabilities of firefighting recruits. The fifth event features in the CPAT is forcible entry where candidates are required to participate in an exercise simulating opening a lock

ed door or breaching a wall. The Forcible Entry Unit is designed to be fastened against a permanent masonry or steel structure. These structures must be capable of withstanding significant horizontal forces exerted from the ten pound sledgehammer used to compress the unit. If a masonry or steel structure cannot be located a heavy timber, well-braced wall can be constructed to support the device. The wood wall must be properly fastened to the ground to keep the device from tipping. The unit is designed to be mounted with the metal fl**ge portion of the hitting surface extending to the sides od the hitting pad. Mounting in this position makes it easiest to attach the calibration device.
