When is it time for an engine refresh?

A lot of people ask if there’s a mileage where a Harley engine should be rebuilt.

The truth is, there isn’t a magic number.

Many well-maintained Harleys will run well past 100,000 miles. What matters more is the engine’s condition than the odometer.

Signs it may be time for an inspection:
• Increased oil consumption
• Loss of power
• Excessive engine noise
• Low compression
• Excessive blow-by
• Smoke from the exhaust

A compression test and leak-down test can tell you a lot before replacing expensive parts.

If your bike has high mileage or just doesn’t feel like it used to, bring it by DKPcycle. I’d rather help you catch a problem early than wait until it turns into a major repair.
