Road 2 Recovery update 🙏
Life can really throw some speed bumps at you, but I’m always down to ride the whoops!
Last Saturday night, I started having a pretty bad headache. I figured I might be coming down with something, so I took some Nyquil and went to bed. Sunday morning, I woke up with a 103° fever. Having just had back surgery the week prior, we were concerned about the possibility of an internal infection. To be safe, we headed to the hospital.
After hours of waiting and multiple tests, doctors said it was the onset of a UTI, prescribed medication, and sent me home. My fever began to fade later that day, but around 1:30 PM, I was hit with another headache — and then, all of a sudden, the most excruciating heart pain I’ve ever felt in my life. I told my mom to rush me back to the hospital.
We were in Big Bear, so off we went. The ER staff ran an EKG and immediately made arrangements for an emergency transfer, telling me it showed signs of a STEMI — a heart attack. Before I knew it, I was in an ambulance headed to the airport, then loaded into a medical helicopter bound for Loma Linda Children’s Hospital, where I’ve been in the cardiac ICU ever since. Definitely not the kind of helicopter rides I want to keep taking!
After countless tests — blood draws, labs, CT scans, MRIs, echocardiograms, and EKGs — the doctors finally diagnosed me with Myopericarditis. It’s the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced, but thankfully, I am on the mend and expected to make a full recovery. These bumps in the road are only slowing me down a little — each one just makes me more determined for my comeback.
I can’t thank the staff here enough for their incredible care and my family and friends for their constant support. Onward and upward from here!
