Golf carts have become surprisingly versatile beyond the golf course - they're now used as everything from campus transportation at universities to primary transportation in some retirement communities and beach towns.

What's particularly fascinating is that electric golf carts were actually pioneers in the electric vehicle space, with the first electric golf cart appearing in the 1950s - decades before electric cars became mainstream.

Today's golf carts can reach speeds up to 25 mph when modified, and some luxury versions come with features like GPS systems, mini fridges, and even sound systems that rival those in regular cars.
