ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) calibration is needed whenever certain components of the system, such as cameras, radar, LiDAR, or sensors, are disturbed, replaced, or misaligned. Here are common situations when ADAS calibration is necessary:
1. Windshield Replacement:
Why: Many ADAS features, such as lane-keeping assist or forward-collision warning, rely on cameras mounted on the windshield. If the windshield is replaced, the camera's alignment may be altered, requiring recalibration.
2. Collision or Accident:
Why: Even minor collisions can impact the alignment of sensors, cameras, and radar systems. Any damage or displacement, even if subtle, can affect the accuracy of ADAS functions like automatic emergency braking or adaptive cruise control.
3. Suspension Repairs or Alignment:
Why: Changes to the vehicle's suspension, ride height, or wheel alignment can affect ADAS systems that rely on precise measurements, such as radar-based systems for detecting vehicles ahead or behind.
4. Bumper or Grille Repair:
Why: ADAS radar sensors are often located behind the front grille or bumper. Any repair, repaint, or replacement in those areas may affect the radar's accuracy and require recalibration.
5. Side Mirror or Blind Spot Sensor Replacement:
Why: Blind-spot monitoring systems rely on sensors in the side mirrors or rear bumper. If any of these parts are replaced, recalibration is often needed to ensure the system functions properly.
6. Change in Tire Size or Wheel Replacement:
Why: If a vehicle's tire size or wheels are replaced with non-standard ones, it can impact ADAS systems that rely on wheel speed and distance measurements. Calibration helps adjust for these differences.
7. ADAS Component Replacement:
Why: If any of the ADAS components (cameras, radar, sensors) are replaced due to wear, malfunction, or upgrade, calibration is needed to ensure proper functioning with the vehicle’s system.
8. Warning Light or Error Code:
Why: If a dashboard warning light or error code related to ADAS functions appears, recalibration might be required to diagnose and resolve the issue.
9. Vehicle Manufacturer Requirement:
Why: Some manufacturers recommend or require ADAS recalibration after specific routine maintenance, such as wheel alignment, tire changes, or suspension work.
