October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. CASA volunteers learn in training that children in families where there is domestic violence are at a great risk of becoming victims of abuse themselves. There are many behavioral, social, emotional/psychological, and cognitive signs of childhood domestic violence.
CASA volunteers can help by being knowledgeable and concerned about domestic violence, taking into account the history and severity of family violence when making placement recommendations and always striving to determine the best interest of the child. (via Kentucky CASA Network)
