This 2018 L5P Duramax was traveling and was six hours from home when it went into a limp mode condition. The customer brought the truck to us with the understanding that emergency labor rates would apply.

DIAGNOSTICS & INSPECTION FINDINGS:
We diagnosed the issue as a failed injector pigtail. During our comprehensive 18-point inspection, we also noted the following:
• Windshield wipers were worn
• Air filter was dirty
• Transmission service would be recommended soon

APPROVED REPAIRS:
The customer approved the injector pigtail repair and declined the remaining recommendations.

FINAL STATUS:
We completed the approved repair and had the customer back on the road within two hours.

This 2012 Ram 2500, which we originally built about five years ago, came back in for a coolant leak. During our diagnostics, we identified the issue as a failing water pump. The customer approved the repair, and we replaced the water pump. The truck was returned to the customer in good working condition

CUSTOMER CONCERN:
This 2003 F-350 with the 6.0L Powerstroke came in with concerns of high oil temperatures, a loose downpipe, and a significant oil leak that needed to be identified.

DIAGNOSTICS & INSPECTION FINDINGS:
During diagnostics, we found that the exhaust had been knocked loose from the downpipe and required a new clamp. Additional findings included:
• Exhaust manifold leaks — we recommended replacing the manifolds and gaskets.
• Oil pan was severely rusted and seeping oil.
• Upper oil pan and camshaft position sensor seal were both leaking — replacement was recommended.
• Power balance test revealed that at least a couple of injectors were weak.
• Oil temperatures were observed to creep up during diagnostics — we recommended addressing the exhaust leaks first, and if the issue persists, replacing the oil cooler.
• The truck was equipped with stock head bolts — we recommended our comprehensive Solutions Package, which includes ARP head studs and a new oil cooler, while also covering the labor associated with the repairs above.

During our 18-point inspection, we also noted the following:
• Wiper blades were worn
• License plate bulbs were out
• Coolant level was low
• Cab mounts were deteriorated
• Tires needed rotation
• Tie rod at the Pitman arm had excessive play

APPROVED REPAIRS:
The customer approved our Solutions Package while choosing to retain the OEM cylinder heads (although we recommended Kill Devil Diesel Icon heads ). Additional approved items included:
• New windshield wipers
• New cab mounts
• New oil pan
• New fuel injectors
• Replacement of the driver-side valve cover
• One new exhaust manifold
• Tire rotation, balance, and alignment

FINAL STATUS:
All approved repairs were completed. The truck was test driven and returned to the customer in good running condition.

CUSTOMER CONCERN:
The customer brought in his truck with a concern that, on one occasion, the starter did not engage when attempting to start the vehicle.

DIAGNOSTIC & INITIAL REPAIRS:
The customer approved our 35-point inspection as well as the removal and replacement of the starter with a new OEM unit. During the starter replacement, we inspected the flexplate and discovered several teeth were missing—likely damaged from the failed starter engagement. We recommended replacing the flexplate, which the customer approved.

INSPECTION FINDINGS:
During our 35-point inspection, we also found the following items:
• The lower oil pan had a slight leak — we recommended upgrading to an aftermarket oil pan when the customer is ready.
• Rear differential fluid was slightly dirty.
• Front differential cover was seeping.
• Front brake pads were worn thin.
• Slight play noted in both ends of the drag link.

APPROVED REPAIRS:
The customer approved removal of the transmission to replace the flexplate.
• New updated OEM flexplate installation
• Pacific Performance Engineering brushed aluminum deep pan for the 10R140 transmission which adds 8 qts of fluid (we keep these In stock) with a trans service.
• Replacement of the starter with a new OEM unit

FINAL STATUS:
All approved repairs were completed. The truck was test driven and returned to the customer in good working condition.

VEHICLE INSPECTION & REPAIR SUMMARY
Vehicle: 7.3L Powerstroke (Post-Purchase Evaluation)
CONCERNS: Harsh shifting and suspected oil leaks around the turbo

INITIAL DIAGNOSTIC IMPRESSION:
We suspected the harsh shifting concern may have been related to a lack of engine power.

INSPECTION FINDINGS:
During our 35-point inspection, we identified the following:
• A/C pressure switch was held on with zip ties
• ICP and IPR pigtails were installed using spade connectors
• Primary coolant level was slightly low
• Turbo inlet pipes were leaking
• Front U-joint on the front driveshaft was worn
• Drag link at the Pitman arm had excessive play
• Driver-side battery tested good but showed signs of weakening
• Carrier bearing on the rear driveshaft was failing
• Transfer case fluid was overfilled and dirty
• Rear differential fluid was dirty
• Rear shock mounts had been welded on; non-factory but functional
• Front brakes were in good condition
• Oil dipstick adapter had been previously welded
• Turbo clamp was broken and not sealing to the spider intake, causing a boost and CCV oil leak
• Fuel heater was unplugged, likely due to shorting

RECOMMENDED & APPROVED REPAIRS:
The customer approved the following repairs and upgrades:
• Replace up-pipes with Odawgs Diesel Performance up-pipes
• Correct the ICP and IPR pigtail wiring
• Replace turbo-to-spider intake clamp
• Replace U-joints on the front driveshaft
• Replace carrier bearing on the rear driveshaft
• Perform transfer case and rear differential service
• Replace the turbo with a KC Turbos Stage 1 Turbo

ADDITIONAL FINDINGS DURING TEST DRIVE:
Following all repairs, we performed a test drive and found that the high-pressure oil pump (HPOP) was not keeping up, only building 1,490 PSI. We recommended replacement and presented the customer with two options: aftermarket or OEM. The customer opted to proceed with OEM components.

FINAL STATUS:
All approved work was performed. The vehicle was test-driven, and all concerns were resolved. The truck was returned to the customer in good working condition.

CONCERNS
This Excursion came in for installation of an S&S Disaster Prevention Kit, a MagnaFlow cat-back exhaust, and front and rear differential services.

DIAGNOSIS
While performing the differential service, we found the front differential was clean and full. We informed the customer, but they chose to proceed with the service regardless.
We recommended a transfer case service, which the customer approved.
We also recommended upgrading the CCV filter and suggested installing a DCR pump instead of the Disaster Prevention Kit.

18-POINT COMPREHENSIVE INSPECTION FINDINGS
• Dirty air filter
• Recommended HS cold-side pipe kit
• Recommended oil change
• Recommended fuel filter replacement

CUSTOMER DECISIONS
The customer approved:
