IN THE SHOP: 2023 Toyota Tacoma

In this video Brian outlines his process of undercoating a new Toyota Tacoma. Follow along as he takes you underneath and into the spaces you don’t get to see on a regular basis.
In addition to what Brian shared, he also applied protection under the hood, inside the doors and behind the taillights to provide a full Fluid Film undercoating service for this client.

IN THE SHOP: 1972 VW Super Beetle, aka Mickey Lemon

The 1972 VW Super Beetle is an iconic car, that in that era reached 15 million in sales, making it the most popular car in the world (surpassing the Ford ‘Model T’.) It’s unique design turns heads even still today. Brian, the owner of MATTT, is the owner of this special car, aptly named ‘Mickey Lemon.’ The name Mickey Lemon was coined by the family because when it was purchased it had a Mickey Mouse on the antenna. The Lemon part was added because of the color of the car. This vehicle has a lot of value to Brian not just because it's a classic car, but because of all the special memories his family has shared inside. From cruising around with his pup, Sandy, riding sh***un, to taking rides with his kids to hanging out with friends, this car is a priceless piece of family history. To keep these memories rolling, Brian knew it was time to stabilize the undercarriage to keep corrosion from progressing further into the future as well as delay the need to invest in extensive repairs.

Side note: Mickey needs a lot of work (mostly undercarriage/body but also drivetrain) If the undercarriage rusts completely out then looking nice on the outside means nothing. Right now the focus is on preserving this vehicle for the future.

His process to preserve Mickey Lemon was to prep the undercarriage to maximize the Fluid Film coating potential. Loose rust was scraped off and dirt was blown off with the compressor. Wheel wells were prepped by removing rust and old undercoatng followed by painting them black to enhance appearance. Brian then added the Fluid Film Black to the undercarriage and wheel wells, completing the preservation. He was delighted with this personal project and can’t wait to for more fun memories to be made as a result.

IN THE SHOP: 1984 Toyota Truck

Wow! This classic Toyota truck is in amazing condition! I’m not sure if I spent more time undercoating it or admiring the look of it. This truck was purchased by the owner 20+ years ago in Puerto Rico and spent most of its life there. I have never seen an ‘84 Toyota in this good of shape! There’s just over 200k mileage on the 22R and the drivetrain so there are still plenty of good times ahead for this ride. The owner came to me because he wanted to make sure that this beautiful truck is preserved way into the future with Fluid Film.

The owner and I developed the corrosion strategy together. The owner shared that he wasn’t interested in the application of Fluid Film under the hood because he often shows the truck and didn’t want the residue present. The undercarriage was clean and rust free and was already black. However, I did find that there were several locations with corrosion present that would continue to corrode over the years (see fenderwell before and after). Fluid Film ™ was utilized on all of the suspension components to preserve the look of the undercarriage. Fluid Film Black ™ was selected for the frame and undercarriage. Fluid Film Clear ™ was utilized for suspension and painted surfaces to maintain the aesthetics of the truck. The owner and I are very pleased with how this project turned out. I requested to be on the list if he ever wanted to part with this 1984 Toyota Pickup. I’m crossing my fingers that when the time comes for the owner to pass it along that I am the new lucky owner! 🙂

The Treatment I provided with Fluid Film ensures that this unique vehicle will be preserved for generations to come!

In the Shop: 1985 Mustang 5.0L GT

Undercoating is not limited to work trucks and hauling trailers, cars are also excellent candidates for undercoating. Car owners that consider their vehicle as part of the family, based on it’s history and all the memories shared in them, tend to have taken a little bit of a hit on the underside. A Fluid Film undercoating by MATTT Preservation can extend the life of the frame and allow the car to stick around for another generation to come. Cars like this 1985 Mustang 5.0L GT that Brian undercoated to provide protection against corrosion fall into this category of needed preservation. IN THE SHOP: 2023 JEEP RENEGADE MOJAVE

All you Jeep owners out there check this out. A client brought in a brand new Jeep Renegade Mojave with 196 miles on the odometer to get preventative care in the form of Fluid Film Clear applied to its undercarriage and beyond. New vehicles don’t require much prep work so the undercoating work was fast and efficient. Brian addressed the undercarriage, the taillights, around the premium shocks, under the spare tire, wheel wells, inside the tow, inside the chassis, inside the door frames, and the rockers to name quite a few. The client has invested a little extra in their baby to plan for a future of going head-to-head with the effects of water, road treatments, and air, the triple threat that causes corrosion, a vehicle’s worst enemy. With a vehicle meant to be utilized in rugged terrain, the undercoating service by MATTT Preservation is a no-brainer of an investment.

IN THE SHOP: 1985 DODGE PICKUP SHORTBED PROSPECTOR - PART 2

Application
For the undercarriage and fender wells, FLUID FILM Black was selected to achieve the customers objective of ‘Improving the aesthetic appearance’. The customer was concerned about the potential for disturbing wiring so taillights were not removed (Removing the taillights is the typical approach is to treat behind the lights and to gain access to the inside of the bed.) I was able to treat the inside of the bed and the tailights area from underneath the truck. This truck had been undercoated several times, but hard to access areas (e.g. under the spare tire, inside the frame rails) were omitted during previous undercoating attempts. At MATTT Preservation the objective is to thoroughly treat and protect every vehicle. To achieve thorough treatment and protection it’s about attention to detail, investing time, and generous application of FLUID FILM.

This was a really fun project that I enjoyed. I am grateful to have the opportunity to preserve this 1985 Dodge for future generations! Every project is unique, and the undercoating solutions are tailored to meet your goals and objectives.
