One of the best-kept secrets about summer in the San Juan Mountains is monsoon season.

Beginning in July, afternoon thunderstorms roll across the high country, bringing much-needed rain to the forests, meadows, rivers, and alpine peaks. The moisture helps improve air quality, settles dust on the trails, nourishes wildflowers, and breathes new life into the waterfalls that make Ouray so unforgettable.
