Fall weekends are getting shorter.

There are only so many crisp mornings, golden hillsides, quiet roads, and cool evenings left before the San Juans settle into winter.

Fall is still here. Winter is already knocking.

October in Ouray has a way of giving you two seasons at once.

Golden leaves still hanging on in town. Fresh snow settling into the mountains. Cold air in the morning and a little steam rising from the hot springs.

For a few short weeks, fall and winter overlap in the San Juans.

It’s a beautiful time to slow down, take the scenic route, soak awhile, and spend a few days in Ouray before winter settles in for good.

What a weekend, Ouray.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by The Smokehouse during the Big Head Todd & The Monsters concert in Fellin Park and helped us celebrate Ouray’s 150th anniversary.

It was a pretty special thing to look out across the park, see neighbors and visitors gathered beneath the San Juans, hear great music filling the valley, and get to serve a little Smokehouse comfort food along the way.

Events like this are a reminder of what makes Ouray different.

The mountains are spectacular.

But the people make the place.

Thank you for supporting The Smokehouse, Ouray Riverside Resort, and the businesses that call this valley home.

And congratulations to Ouray on 150 years.

Tomorrow, Ouray celebrates 150 years with a free anniversary concert in Fellin Park featuring Big Head Todd & The Monsters, with Hazel Miller & The Collective opening the evening.

Saturday, October 3
4–8 PM
Fellin Park
Free and open to all

Bring a modest-size chair or blanket, dress for October weather, and plan to stay awhile. Food and beverage vendors will be available on site, and the concert will take place rain or shine.

We’ll see you in the park.

Fall in the San Juans is too good to hurry through.
