A little something for everyone at the harbor this weekend.

Live music at The Boardwalk, a Saturday morning 5K, and a chance to hear an incredible Great Loop story over breakfast.

Thanks to Harbor House by Valentino’s, volunteers, Quarterdeck at Heritage Harbor Marina and the Resort Association for helping bring all of these festivities together.

Looper Season feels a little different after hearing from two of our own.

On Saturday, John and Kelley Stiles shared stories from their 6,200-mile Great Loop journey during Breakfast & a Story at Heritage Harbor. There were plenty of lessons along the way - learning to navigate tides, figuring out how and where to tie up in unfamiliar places, weathering some rough storms, and adjusting to life together on the boat day after day.

And after seeing so many marinas and communities along the Loop, hearing how proud they are to call Heritage Harbor their home port meant a lot to us.

Now, as we welcome Loopers making their way through Ottawa this season, we have an even greater appreciation for the adventure that brought them here, and all the stories still ahead.

Thank you again, John & Kelley. And welcome home!

Now that’s a flotilla. The harbor was packed with Loopers this weekend, with boats lined up and more continuing to make their way down the Illinois River.

We NEVER get tired of seeing these boats enter our harbor. 👏🛥️🤩 Day after day, book transient slips at our resort. We LOVE meeting these special folks from all over the globe.

But we are also grateful for our local "looper hands" boaters who live at the resort (and pitch in when the flotillas come in!) Three waves of boats came through the locks today equaling new 14 reservations in the harbor. We have almost 30 looper boats with us tonight...which should make for some great docktails up at Harbor House by Valentino’s and a fresh river briefing by Bryce Wallace, Harbor Host.

Whether they’re catching lines, helping guide a boat into the harbor, welcoming visiting boaters or just making new friends along the way, hospitality comes pretty naturally to these two.

As AGLCA Harbor Hosts (and award recipients for their efforts last season) they’re familiar faces to many throughout the Great Loop community.
