A canned tune is written for a generic truck, not the parts on yours.

🌡️ Many diesel builders use roughly 1,250–1,300°F as a sustained ceiling for a pre-turbo EGT probe.
Short spikes can be normal; a long pull above that range can crack pistons and damage turbos.

1. Find your EGT reading on your gauge or monitor before the next tow. No reading? You can’t use EGT to tell when to back off.

2. Check where the probe sits. Readings change with probe location, so know yours before comparing numbers.

3. On a long uphill pull, note what’s normal for your truck. Good: a brief spike that comes back down. Bad: a pre-turbo reading that stays above that range. Back off if it does.

4. If high EGT keeps showing up on towing pulls, it’s a shop job: review live data and the towing calibration.
