This is Jupiter captured by the James Webb Space Telescope.
Jupiter has rings.
Yes, really.
Most people think of Saturn when they hear “planet with rings.” But Jupiter has them too—they’re just faint, dusty, and almost impossible to spot from Earth.
The James Webb Space Telescope changed that.
In this image, Jupiter glows in shades of purple and electric blue. The Great Red Spot—a storm larger than Earth—appears bright white due to the way it reflects sunlight.
And those thin lines stretching out on either side?
Those are the rings. Formed from dust created when tiny moons are struck by space debris over billions of years.
We’ve been observing Jupiter for centuries—and still missing so much of the picture.
JWST is finally helping us see it clearly.
