Ceramic Coating vs. Paint Protection Film (PPF) — Which One Is Right for Your Vehicle?

One of the most common questions we get at Legion Detailing is: What’s the difference between Ceramic Coating and PPF?

Satin and matte-finish paint looks incredible—but it comes with a completely different level of care and maintenance compared to traditional gloss paint.

Most satin and matte finishes from manufacturers are extremely difficult to repair once they’re damaged. You can’t simply polish out a scratch, wet sand the panel, or perform a traditional paint correction. Even small chips, scratches, or imperfections can mean the entire panel needs to be refinished to properly match the original finish.

That’s where proper protection becomes especially important.

🛡️ Paint Protection Film (PPF) gives satin and matte-finish vehicles an added layer of protection against rock chips, road debris, scratches, and everyday wear. Today in the shop, we have a Lexus GS 350 F Sport in for a full two-step paint correction to restore the finish and bring the gloss back, a Toyota Tundra getting a complete interior and exterior detail, and a vinyl wrap removal being performed to prepare a vehicle for hail damage repairs.

2025 Corvette C8 in Orange, fully protected and finished at Legion Detailing.

This C8 received our Full Track Package, including:
• Full front PPF
• Rocker panels
• Rear bumper piece
• Partial A-pillars
• Partial roof

We also applied Gyeon ceramic coating to the entire vehicle, including the wheels, giving this Corvette enhanced gloss, protection, and easier maintenance.
