From the I CANT BELIEVE IVE I GOT IT files (or Im a bad ass with skills) GOD given.
2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4X4 broken exhaust stud in head, no straight access. 45° to ground, Front axle and sub frame, fenderwell in way, Broken down inside hole last 4 or 5 threads destroyed.
In this case I usually weld small dots on stud untill it sicks above surface, then weld a nut on it, as you can see from the last photo, I did it 13 times, took most of the day Tuesday, its loose but wont make it past 1/3 turn before it locks and breaks the weld.
Wednesday I decide to drill, as a hole down the center releases outside pressure. Stud too hard to make a good centering dimple and no real room to swing hammer. Relatively blind, 10 cobalt drills later, arm extended, with left hand on angle drill and the other with a prybar to give pressure wedged against right fenderwell, at that odd angle, dodging metal chips, it punches though. Standard SnapOn extractor does the trick. ALL day.
Note the accuracy of the small hole as not to damage remaining threads. Either I am Stobborn or God loves me… maybe a little of both. Too bad I cant charge the customer for all the time, but it beats telling him the head has to be removed.
Some days I love my job….
