Today marks 6 years since Tim Borer accepted the challenge and was promoted to Deputy Fire Marshal.

Tim started in our office as a Fire Insoector on January 21, 2019. Since that day, he has proven himself time and time again as to just how much of an amazing addition to our office he was.

You would think that accepting a more challenging position during the height of Covid was daring enough, it was just the start. Our office was turned upside down with the unfortunate passing of Fire Marshal Tim Smith and unexpected retirement of one of our Fire Inspectors leaving us with only 2 of us in enforcement and investigations and our Administrative Assistant Beverly. We had a long road ahead, and Tim stepped up and helped build our office back up from the ground to what it is today.

In 2023, Tim also accepted the opportunity presented by First Selectman Zeoli to take on an additional role as Emergency Management Director; yet another job he has absolutely excelled at!

There isn’t a day where you can’t hear the words, “Thank god we got Borer!”. Whether it’s his insight on issues, his quick wit, or the fact that any time an issue comes up he’s the first to say, “You want me to take that?”, he never backs away from work.

Tim, on this 6th anniversary of your promotion to Deputy Fire Marshal, I want to thank you on behalf of not just our office but the entire Town of Orange for everything you do. I look forward to many more years of laughs and hard work with you!

Jamie

Good morning, all!

At 12:00 noon on Friday, July 3rd we will be shutting down access to the rear pavilion and driveways to set up the fireworks for the town’s 250th celebration. The town has prepared an excellent event with food trucks, a concert, and fireworks show for all to enjoy, but we must do it safely and within the regulations. Every year, we get people who argue with our officials about closing the rear of the community center. So, this year we’ve decided to post a Late Show top ten list of arguments and excuses as to why the signs like we posted here doesn’t apply:

10. You were serious about that?
9. I didn’t see any fireworks.
8. The show isn’t until 9:30. Why are you blocking the path now? (The answer is, it takes a long time to load the explosives!)
7. I’m just on the walkway. What’s the big deal?
6. Well then, why are all THOSE people allowed inside the roped area? (They were referring to the firefighters and CERT members.)
5. But the website doesn’t say anything about the disc golf being closed. Spoiler alert: it does…
4. I thought the sign was just for vehicles. I’m walking!(It’s not. It’s for everyone except public safety workers and fireworks employees!).
3. We’re just playing frisbee!
2. But it’s the best spot to watch the show! (There isn’t a bad spot on the fairgrounds!)

And the number 1 argument….

1. I DIDN’T SEE THE 819,374 SIGNS!

PLEASE, for the safety of you, the firefighters, CERT team members, and fireworks crew, please enjoy the day but from outside the fireworks zone!

We hope you got a laugh out of our top 10, and wish you the best celebration! 6:00 pm concert with 9:30 fireworks and ground display!

A huge thank you to First Selectman James Zeoli and his Administrative Assistant Ann Denny who have put in countless hours behind the scenes along with Dominic Lombardi and the rest of the 250th Anniversary celebration crew to make sure our town gives this historic milestone proper recognition!

Happy 4th! We’ll see you at the show!

As we all know, next weekend is when everyone will be celebrating the big 250th anniversary on July 4th. We want to remind everyone to do it safely!

In 2024, there were an estimated 14,700 injuries reported nationwide due to fireworks-related incidents, which was a fifty-two (52%) percent increase from the previous year. The most common injuries reported were burns, followed by lacerations, and contusions. Injuries to the hands was the most prevalent, followed closely by injuries to the head, face and ears. Injuries from sparklers were responsible for approximately 1,700 of those injuries reported. The common age group experiencing these injuries were between the ages of 15 and 24. These statistics do not include the 11 deaths reported due to fireworks-related incidents.

In an effort to keep you and your loved ones safe, here are some tips:

1. Fireworks are not legal in the State of Connecticut. The only items that are legal are fountains and sparklers that have the only effect of emitting a shower of sparks. Anything that is aerial or explosive is illegal. Depending on the size of the device, it could actually be considered possession of explosives, resulting in a much more serious criminal charge.

2. You must be at least sixteen (16) years old to purchase, possess, or use sparklers and/or fountains.

3. Once you light your cooking grill, camp fire (with an open burn permit, of course) or any other open flame devices like tiki torches, they must be supervised until such time that you can confirm the fire is completed extinguished.

4. Sparklers are NOT permitted at the fairgrounds during the town’s 250th celebration.

The Town of Orange is putting on an amazing celebration on July 3rd (with a rain date of July 5th) with live music, as well as a professional fireworks display. Please come enjoy the show and leave the fireworks to the licensed pros!

Have a happy and safe 4th of July celebration, as well as a joyful summer!
