We are currently looking for another technician to add in to our family here at Hoover Automotive & Performance!

Must be drug free, background and drivers license checks performed, must have atleast 3 years of PROFFESSIONAL experience in automotive, and willing to work!

We are looking for one of two types of technicians, a general service tech or a certified technician.

1.General service technician: hourly pay.
$15-25/hr (based on experience)

Duties would include:
-basic maintenances such as oil changes, brakes, minor services
-shop clean up
-give a helping hand to the other technicians with repair work
-make parts deliveries
-drive customers home on occasion
-vehicle test drives/Quality control checks

2. Dealer and/or ASE Certified technician: flat rate pay, with step up pay based on hours.
$25-40/hr (based on experience)

Must be skilled with all mechanical systems of a vehicle:
-electrical diagnosis work
-AC repairs
-internal engine repairs (headgaskets, timing chains, transmission repairs/replacements, etc)
-Must be able to prove diagnosis results, not a parts thrower
-have your own tools
-show up on time and ready to work
-hungry to earn and eager to help your fellow employee's
-teachable and willing to learn

Last week was Toyota truck week for sure!! We had RHD Surf's and Prado's, 80 series Landcruisers, Supercharged Tundra's, lifted Taco's, offroad ready 4runners, lifted FJ Cruisers all here for various maintenances, diagnoses, and/or repairs and some even for some modifications! Even a Toyota BOAT, yes for real, got dropped off for some engine noise diagnosis! The celica snuck in for some diag as well towards the end of the week as well as a bunch of other Asian and American vehicle's as well.

We get asked about automotive battery brands, battery life and how to maintain the battery health, warranties, good or bad brands to choose from, flooded vs agm vs lithium-ion, cost, etc nearly on a daily basis.

Since we opened in 2021, we have seen issues with just about every single battery brand out there, AGM or not, expensive or cheap, name brand or second hand, etc. In todays world, name brand doesnt mean as much as it used to due to the ever changing landscape of businesses selling and purchasing each other, venture capitalists taking over, companies sending manufacturing over seas, etc.

However, there are a lot of factors that contribute to the health of your battery, such as how the vehicle is used, operational condition of the charging system, electrical loads (stock or with aftermarket accessories added on), operating voltage, length and frequency of drive time, vehicle storage condition, whether in a garage or outside which affects temperature which can affect age before issues arise since batteries hate being too hot or too cold, terminal tightness and condition also can affect batteries, surface discharge, parasitic draws, being shaken around offroad vs street driving can cause issues, if a battery tie down is installed or not, etc....there are a lot of factors to always be considered, which is why some people have great results with one brand and someone else may have poor results with the same brand.

However, being in the industry for 15+ years, we have seen less issues with Interstate Batteries, overall compared to most other common brands. We can't really speak to the super high end AGM or Lithium batteries as we rarely see them and they're in another league with price. Compared to some cheaper batteries such as the ones bought at Walmart or refurbished/reconditioned/"blem" aka blemish batteries or some lower end parts store batteries, or even some name brand common ones, we have seen better warranties, better results, and few issues using Interstate Batteries, which is why we offer them to our customers!

PSA to our Toyota customers!

If you have a 5.7L V8 Toyota Tundra, Sequoia, Landcruiser and have a check engine light for timing codes, low oil pressure lights on the dash or pressure issues, abnormal engine noises, or other symptoms SHUT IT DOWN IMMEDIATELY and check your oil filter!

During an oil change, many shops dont pay attention and when they change the filter, the aluminum corrugated support tube that goes through the middle of the filter gets thrown away by accident. That tube keeps the filter strong and from collapsing. When it collapses, it starves your engine of oil which causes at BEST timing code issues, at WORST complete engine failure...

This can also occur when people upgrade to these Dorman or Toyota or other aftermarket aluminum filter housings. They do NOT come with the proper aluminum tube, it has to be reused from the old original plastic filter housing.

Give us a call if you recently had an oil change done elsewhere and now have some of these issues or symptoms. We'l check this issue out and make sure you don't kill your engine!
