BEWARE!!! Your local “trusted” mobile mechanic might not be so trustworthy and may leave you high and dry

Our customer came to us after utilizing a local “trusted” mobile mechanic to perform a head gasket and timing chain job. They were quoted about $3100, which is normal for this specific engine if you have the overhead of a brick and mortar shop to pay for, but high as a mobile mechanic. To make it worse, this mechanic blocked them after the “repair” inevitably failed.

Yes, there are 2 sides to each story, but we have a copy of the invoice, text messages, and pictures of the work not completed correctly.

We performed the repair, warranty the work, and ALWAYS are available should a customer have issues.

All this to say, make sure if you think you’re going to save money with a mobile mechanic, or are willing to pay for the convenience of them doing it at your home, you verify they can show you insurance so you can make a claim if they choose not to assist with a warranty repair.

Pictured below is the oil pick up screen absolutely covered in RTV, timing chain guide pieces, and carbon. None of that should be there had they performed the repair correctly the first time. Also pictured is the state of the cylinder heads we assume they attempted to resurface themselves with sand paper.

*On average, 6 quarts of synthetic oil and the OEM filter cost around $40. This is quality oil with a quality OEM oil filter, not the cheap $1–$2 filter every quick oil change location uses.
