These are actual photos from the accident involving Ben Moore of Doug Yates Towing & Recovery in Tennessee.

First, I want to personally thank Ben for giving me permission to share these pictures and his video. I know these aren’t easy images to look at, and I can only imagine how difficult they are for him and his family.

We’re not sharing these pictures for shock value. We’re sharing them to SAVE LIVES!

This is what can happen when a tow operator is struck while simply trying to do his job. One moment you’re working to help somebody else, and the next you’re fighting for your own life.

This is exactly why we continue pushing for TROY’S LAW in Kentucky and greater roadside safety for everyone in the towing industry.

We need more awareness, better protection, and drivers who understand that MOVING OVER IS THE LAW, NOT A COURTESY!

FROM ALL OF US AT BUBBA’S TOWING & RECOVERY PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ THIS.

We want you to think about something the next time you’re driving down the highway and see a tow truck sitting on the shoulder with its warning lights flashing.

THAT’S SOMEBODY’S HUSBAND. SOMEBODY’S WIFE. SOMEBODY’S DADDY. SOMEBODY’S SON OR DAUGHTER.

And they’re standing just a few feet away from vehicles traveling 70 miles per hour or faster.

Ben Moore an operator with Doug Yates Towing & Recovery in Tennessee recently experienced what every one of us in this industry fears.

HE WAS STRUCK BY A VEHICLE WHILE WORKING ON THE HIGHWAY.

Both legs broken. One leg shattered so severely that it will require multiple surgeries. A fractured hand, a fractured foot, and horrific wounds across his body.

He’s now in a rehabilitation hospital learning how to stand and walk again. Things most of us take for granted every single day.

His goal? TO BE ABLE TO STAND AND TAKE FIVE STEPS WITHOUT HELP BY DECEMBER 31ST.

Think about that for a minute.

He went to work to provide for his family, just like the rest of us. Now he’s fighting to get back on his feet.

And by the grace of God, he’s still alive to fight that battle.

Here at Bubba’s Towing & Recovery, we know these dangers firsthand. We work alongside moving traffic in the rain, snow, darkness, and every condition imaginable. We respond when others need help, knowing that one distracted driver could change our lives forever.

WE ARE NOT ASKING FOR SPECIAL TREATMENT. WE ARE ASKING FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO HOME ALIVE.

This is exactly why we have fought so hard for TROY’S LAW here in Kentucky.

We lost our friend and fellow tow operator Troy Caldwell on September 25, 2024. His family never got the opportunity to bring him home. And since his death there has been two more here in Kentucky.

And here we are, watching another family almost experience that same heartbreak.

Folks, these aren’t just stories on Facebook. These are real people. Real injuries. Real families. And sometimes, real funerals.

When you see flashing lights on the roadside:

🚨 SLOW DOWN.

🚨 MOVE OVER.

🚨 PUT THE PHONE DOWN.

🚨 PAY ATTENTION.

Don’t wait until you’re right on top of us to make a decision.

To our fellow tow operator recovering in Tennessee, everyone here at Bubba’s Towing & Recovery is praying for you, your family, and a full recovery. Your strength and determination deserve the respect of every person who reads your story.

And to the public, I’m asking you to please share this message. Not for likes. Not for attention. But because somewhere tonight, another tow operator will be standing alongside a highway trying to help somebody.

THE NEXT LIFE SAVED COULD BE BECAUSE SOMEBODY READ THIS POST AND REMEMBERED TO MOVE OVER.

We will continue fighting for Troy’s Law in Frankfort in 2027. We owe that to Troy, his family, and every man and woman who puts on a uniform and climbs into a tow truck in this industry.

WE SHOULDN’T HAVE TO DIE TO GET YOUR ATTENTION.

💙 REST IN PEACE, TROOPER HAYDEN PHILLIPS 💙

Everyone here at Bubba’s Towing & Recovery is praying for the family, loved ones, and fellow troopers of Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our Commonwealth today.

Trooper Phillips, thank you for your service, your courage, and your sacrifice. We also thank every first responder who puts on a uniform each day not knowing what that shift may bring.

We are grateful for the swift response of the Louisville Metro Police Department and all responding law-enforcement agencies that resulted in the suspect being taken into custody in Louisville.

Tonight, Kentucky mourns one of its own.

🙏 May God wrap His arms around Trooper Phillips’ family, his fellow troopers, and everyone carrying this loss.

May God bless our friends in blue. 💙🖤

🪽IN LOVING MEMORY OF TROY🪽

Two years ago today, September 25, 2024, we lost Troy Caldwell.

Two years later, the hurt is still there. His family still misses him. His friends still miss him. And those of us in the towing industry still remember exactly why this fight started. But Troy’s name has not been forgotten.

His name has been spoken in Frankfort. His story has been heard across Kentucky. And TROY’S LAW has become more than a piece of legislation it has become a promise that we will keep fighting to make the roadside safer for the men and women who put their lives on the line every single day.

We’ve made progress. We’ve faced setbacks. But we have NOT given up, and we’re not going to. Troy can’t come home. But if Troy’s story can help another tow operator make it home to their family, then this fight is worth every mile, every meeting, every phone call and every trip to Frankfort.

TODAY, WE DON’T JUST REMEMBER HOW TROY DIED.

We remember how HE LIVED. We remember the man, the friend and the tow operator, and we keep fighting in his name.

TROY’S LAW THE FIGHT CONTINUES.

It has been two years since Troy Caldwell was hit and killed along the interstate in Rowan County while trying to service a vehicle.

Other tow truck drivers are hoping a new law will pass next year to make their jobs easier.
