Eden Prairie Schools in Minneapolis wants to electrify their school bus fleet but can't pay for them.

At $340,000 for each new electric school bus, it would cost over $37 million for their fleet of 109 buses.

On Monday, Vice President Harris announced another $17 million that will be used directly towards transitioning to electric school buses.

During her announcement, a bus driver spoke about the comfort and health benefits that he has seen while driving an electric bus, even mentioning the reduction of asthma attacks.

The average diesel fuel price today is $4.26/gallon.

With a conservative average of 10 miles/gallon, fuel costs alone for a diesel school bus is $0.43/mile. Add in $0.24/mile for average maintenance costs and the total cost to maintain and fuel a diesel school bus is a whopping $0.67/mile!

On the other hand, the average cost to maintain and fuel an electric school bus is $0.22/mile.

This is one reason how switching to electric can save a school up to $150,000 over the life of a school bus!
