On this day.....19 years ago..... 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow; kiss the ones you love, snuggle those children a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted. #wewillneverforget #september11

To ZIPPER LANE or Not To ZIPPER LANE? THAT IS THE QUESTION.

In recent weeks, Gardner PD and Gardner City Hall have received a number of calls regarding whether or not the use of a "Zipper Lane" is appropriate on I-35 as you head into Olathe highway construction after leaving Gardner. As most people are aware, the Kansas Dept. of Transportation (KDOT) strongly urged use of the Zipper Lane technique of passing the stalled line of congested traffic and forming a second lane that merged further down the highway. This reduced the length of a congested traffic lane considerably. But after issues with traffic congestion in construction areas on K-10 highway earlier this year, KDOT now recommends the use of EARLY MERGES and LATE MERGES. This basically combines single lane strategy with the Zipper Lane approach, using one or the other based on traffic conditions in specific areas.

KDOT has some good information on their website that will explain this approach in greater detail. You can find that information here:

http://www.ksdot.org/bureaus/kcMetro/merge.asp

As always, if you have any questions about traffic safety, don't hesitate to call the Gardner Police Department at 913-856-7312.

Thanks for getting my baby home safely!
Do you believe in guardian angels? They’re real... After picking up the boys up from their dad’s house, we got a flat tire on a busy street. i quickly called their dad for help. His response? Call roadside assistance. (I’m not joking) i had just dialed the police department when a tow truck pulled up behind me. Right behind me. (I’m not joking) This kind soul noticed my hazards, my panicked face, and my own lil angels in the back seat. He seriously changed my tired in less than 10 minutes and of course, wouldn’t let me pay him. i’m SO thankful for this man. He had a new baby at home and understood my concern for our safety. He is an angel. My friends, don’t lose faith. There are so many good souls out there! didn’t catch his name, but idid get a pic of his truck!
