Good Morning on this beautiful Tuesday! I just wanted to take a moment, as we go into the holiday season where money is even tighter, to give a little hopefully helpful advice.
No one wants to use the little money they have to fix their car, especially this time of year, however there are a few things that you really need to pay attention to. Squeaky brakes, while annoying, are not likely to leave you stranded or needing a new engine. Fluids and heat are two things you really need to watch out for. Engines need oil, a $80 oil change can be the difference in a healthy engine and 5k$ bill for a new one or a new car. Another thing engines do not like is too much heat. Making sure you have the proper and enough coolant is as important as oil. If the temperature sensor in your car starts to climb above half way even a little PLEASE STOP. Some engines can handle a bit of overheating but some, once the temp gauge even starts to climb, are doing significant damage to your engine. I know it is a pain to have to pull over in some random location and have your car towed, we depend so heavily on them, but the difference could be a few hundred dollars for a thermostat or radiator compared to a new car or engine. For most of us everyday involves making those tough choices on what we can pay with the money we have but even just a little maintenance on the right areas of your car can really make a huge difference.
