Heads-up for 2019+ Cummins owners in the OKC area!
The 5th-gen Ram trucks with the 6.7L Cummins (2019 and newer) have seen more reports of hydraulic lifter problems. It often starts with a ticking/rattling on cold startup, rough idle, or that telltale "thump." Left unchecked, it can wear the cam or lead to bigger engine issues.
We've torn into several of these right here in the shop. Collapsed lifters, seized rollers, cam damage - you name it. (Check the real disassembly pics below from jobs we've handled!)
The good news? Catch it early and the fix is straightforward. For those wanting a more permanent, bulletproof solution, many owners upgrade to a solid lifter conversion kit (like spacer-style setups or full flat tappet conversions from trusted aftermarket brands). These eliminate the hydraulic issues for better reliability, especially if you're tuned, towing heavy, or just want peace of mind long-term.
Don't let a tick turn into a major downtime. Swing by The Southside Garage in Oklahoma City, we've got the Cummins experience to keep your truck strong.
