Weekend Recap from Opening Night ππ
First and foremost, I want to start by thanking each and every racer who came out and joined us for opening night! We ended up with 153 entries for a local night of racing, wow! We are incredibly grateful for that turnout, so thank you to everyone.
However, the night was far from perfect, and we have some improvements to make. Those who race with us regularly know that this weekend was an abnormality for our crew. Everyone also knows Iβm not one for making excuses; I own up when we make mistakes. There are a few specific things I want to address directly:
1οΈβ£ The Track Surface: The severe weather leading up to this weekend completely blocked us from getting equipment onto the track until Thursday. This lack of prep time led to the inibility to get as much water on the surface and some areas breaking apart due to rocks under the surface. We worked diligently throughout the day to keep them under control, and we will get this right.
2οΈβ£ The Pro Purple Delay & Long Intermission: We experienced a major scoring system failure. Because we initially believed it would be a quick fix, we allowed the Pro Purple class to pull onto the track. Once we realized it was a bigger issue, we began the process to hand-score the field until the system could be restored. This caused those karts to sit idle in Turn 4 for an extended period. This is unacceptable, and I personally take full responsibility for it. Along with the scoring issues, we failed to communicate what was happening over the PA system to the racers and fans in the pits. The scoring malfunction also caused the extended intermission while our crew rushed to replace the CAT5 cable connecting the tower to the track system.
ποΈ In Remembrance of Mike Burris
On a heavier note, we also learned yesterday of the passing of Mike Burris. Mike was a truly key figure in the karting industry. Not only was he a great person, but he was someone who possessed a massive vision for the growth of karting. He selflessly helped countless people in the racing community through the years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and everyone affected by this loss.
I want to again thank everyone for your continued support and your immense patience this weekend as we knocked some rust off and worked through these first-night kinks.
We will be back on June 20th for our next Points Race, and we will do better for you!
π Points Update: Season points will be posted later today!
Thank you and God Bless!
