Dear Members of District 6 Sail and Power Squadron:

We are saddened to report that our esteemed member P/R/C Richard E. Ashley, SN passed away on February 13, 2025, at age 86. Dick was a Past Rear Commander of the United States Power Squadrons, a Past Commander of Syracuse Sail and Power Squadron (1973), and a Past Commander of District 6. He was an Emeritus Member of USPS with 50 merit marks and was a full certificate holder with the grade of Senior Navigator. Dick was the editor of the Deep 6 (District 6 newsletter) for many years. Boating and boating education were his passions. His career was as an electrical engineer with General Electric and Lockheed Martin.

Dick was predeceased by his wife Ann, who passed away in Florida on January 15, 2022, at age 83. After serving as president of the Syracuse Power Squadron Squadronettes (women’s auxiliary), Ann went on to serve as Commander of the Syracuse Sail and Power Squadron in 1999. Ann was a registered nurse who enjoyed stitching, knitting, and sewing. Richard and Ann are survived by their three sons: Richard E. Ashley of East Palatka, FL; Karl E. Ashley of Baldwinsville, NY; and David C. Ashley (Kathy) of Brewerton, NY, four grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. David is a member and Past Commander of Syracuse Sail and Power Squadron who teaches our Engine Maintenance course.

Calling hours to celebrate Richard and Ann’s lives will be held at Fairchild and Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd. E, DeWitt, NY 13214, on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
A private burial at Woodlawn Cemetery will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Richard and Ann’s honor to either of the following

From 2008-2023, Lakeside Wooden Boat Society members and volunteers provided evening and sunset cruises to Lakesiders on a classic wooden boat named 'Amazing Grace.'

Lakesiders may recall seeing the iconic boat at the dock twice a week and at the Lakeside Wooden Boat Show. 'Amazing Grace' is an all-wood 32-foot Richardson Cruiseabout built in Tonawanda, New York, in 1937. It was designed during the pre-war years to ply the waters of the Great Lakes and inland waterways. So how did 'Amazing Grace' come to Lakeside and what's its current status?

Took a short sunset cruise. Dabbler running great so far. Still needs a few days to soak before we stretch her legs! Had a dragonfly ride along the whole trip for good luck.

Looking for family Richardson...

Reposting from another page, a familiar story of someone looking for a lost part of the family.

She is a 1936 36' Richardson and it was her father's boat and was sold in 1970. She asked if anyone knows if she is still around and being cared for . The boats name at that time was LEWA. Thanks in advance to anyone who may know were this beautiful old boat may still be around.

Rare 28’ 1928 Richardson hull needs to be moved ASAP as we are selling our house. The boat has been under cover since 2002. The interior needs to be completely rebuilt. The engine is probably shot....
