The end of last week and the beginning of this week has been fairly productive. The concrete is dry, the walls are going up, and the building is beginning to take shape. I’m a visual learner, so seeing the plans in 3D (real life) helped me realize there were a few choices I made during the drawing phase that needed to be re-chosen because they didn’t work in reality. It’s cool to see this all come to fruition, and I couldn’t do it without and .

We got concrete, folks. Footing is poured and now we’re ready to lift semi-trucks. 😂 Watching run the job is impressive. His guys work quickly, efficiently, and cleanly. Framing is next, and then the shop will really start to take shape.

Progress is steady on the new shop. Once the concrete is poured we can move onto the exciting part … the walls. At that point the new shop will really begin to take shape as up this point it’s mostly been about deleting things to give ourselves a blank canvas. In a lot of ways I’m a “visual learner,” so I fully expect there to be some hiccups with the design once I see it and can walk through the space with walls in place. Tomorrow’s update is gonna be a cool one.

Steady progress continues. Trench for the lift footing has been dug, rebar cage has been built, underground plumbing is in place, and now it’s time to get signed off so the concrete can get poured.

I don’t normally post reels, but here we are. A friend of mine asked how to reset the early style “Cool Guy” chain tensioners that always fail. So I made him a few videos and I now present this to the Instagram community. I look forward to all the comments blasting me on my work space and how dumb I am for whatever it is I’m doing. I love you all.

More progress on the new shop. The crew laid out the plumbing and busted out the concrete saw. Next comes the manual labor - digging a 61’ x 42” x 36” deep pit for the hoist footing and putting in the new plumbing for the various bathroom and break room upgrades. After a few months of waiting and planning the work is now underway and progress is rapid.

Just a quick Monday photo dump from the last two weeks at the shop. Everything from 356s to 930s and beyond … feels like a wave of carburetor work is coming just in time for warmer days, and the big wave of fan repairs seems to have broken and rolled back. Wrapping up a pair of 3.2 short stroke motors before the next round of 3.45L projects begin. It’s gonna be a busy Spring…

Moving quickly now. Demo is done. The guys filled five 40ft roll-aways with insulation, drywall, framing material, outdated lighting fixtures, acoustic tiles, and HVAC ducting. All that’s left in the building are a few remaining walls, the bathrooms, and some lighting so the workers can see. The next step on the project is to cut up the concrete slab in a few places to make some plumbing changes and pour a footing for the car lifts. Momentum is key…

This 1960 356B stuck a valve a few months back while it was just sitting and idling in the shop. I pulled it apart and found what amounted to an extremely shoddy previous rebuild, so I ended up doing a complete top end job and sent the heads to to right all of their wrongs. I installed a set of 1720cc pistons and cylinders and massaged a few other things for better drivability and longevity while I was in there.

Once .0 put the motor back in the car we found a few issues with the fuel pump (the cap was rotten and caved in and needed to be replaced) and one of the carburetors (one of the plugs in the top was filled with a chunk of cork). After fixing those issues I massaged the carbs and linkage and took it for a drive. The engine has a wide, usable power band and is meaty as heck from about 2000rpm to 5000rpm. Overall, I’m happy with the result, and it gives me a really good reason to take apart my 912 motor and do a big bore kit, lightweight rods, and a mild cam.

Progress continues on the new shop. The demolition is nearly finished, and next we can start laying out the walls and saw cutting the concrete for the plumbing and hoist footing. I knew when I got into the project that there would be a lot of demo, but it’s been three 40ft roll aways to empty the shell. I’ll have a few more progress pics of the empty shell in a few days. Lots to come.
