This exceptionally well-equipped 2013 Chaparral 287 SSX combines the performance of a high-output sport boat with the space, comfort, and upscale appointments of a luxury day cruiser. Measuring nearly 29 feet with a wide 9-foot beam, the 287 SSX offers an enormous amount of seating and entertaining space while maintaining the responsive handling for which Chaparral’s Extended V-Plane hull is known.

POWER & PERFORMANCE

This is not the base-powered version. She is equipped with the highly desirable upgraded Volvo Penta V8-380 DPS package—a 6.0-liter, fuel-injected V8 producing 380 horsepower.

The engine features factory closed freshwater cooling, protecting both the engine and exhaust system from direct internal exposure to saltwater. Volvo Penta also engineered this power package with variable valve timing and electronic engine controls, delivering strong low-end torque, quick acceleration, smooth midrange response, and impressive top-end performance.

Power is transferred through a Volvo Penta DPS DuoProp outdrive with twin counter-rotating stainless-steel propellers. The DuoProp system provides outstanding grip, quicker planing, improved tracking, better low-speed control, and confident docking compared with a conventional single-prop sterndrive.

The engine has only 266 original hours, as shown on the digital hour meter.

EXCEPTIONALLY WELL MAINTAINED

This is a very well-maintained Florida boat whose owner has continually kept up with her mechanical and cosmetic needs. After every use, the engine and cooling system were flushed religiously—an important part of properly maintaining any saltwater-operated sterndrive boat.

Her overall condition reflects that level of care. The Volvo Penta DuoProp outdrive, stainless-steel propellers, trim tabs, hardware, and other telltale components show exceptionally clean in the photographs, with no visible evidence of the heavy corrosion or neglect commonly found on Florida sterndrive boats.

After personally testing the Mercury 300 V8 Verado against the Yamaha 300 V6, we can say without hesitation that the difference is immediately noticeable. The Verado delivers substantially stronger bottom-end torque, quicker acceleration, a smoother and quieter ride and noticeably better cruising efficiency.

During our own real-world testing, the Mercury produced approximately 20% to 25% better fuel economy than comparable Yamaha 300 V6-powered packages. Actual results naturally vary with fuel load, passengers, fishing tackle, weather, water conditions and running speed, but the efficiency advantage remained consistent throughout our testing.

The large-displacement 4.6-liter V8 provides tremendous low-end and midrange power, allowing the Pathfinder’s stepped hull to climb onto plane quickly without excessive bow rise. That immediate response is especially valuable when leaving a shallow basin, navigating a narrow channel or accelerating into open water.

Mercury’s Advanced MidSection isolates engine vibration from the boat, creating an exceptionally smooth and quiet experience at idle and throughout the RPM range. Digital throttle and shift provide precise control around the dock, while Adaptive Speed Control maintains engine RPM as loads and water conditions change. Advanced Range Optimization continually adjusts fuel delivery to maximize cruising efficiency and extend range.

In our experience, this is the strongest-performing, smoothest and most desirable 300-horsepower package available for the Pathfinder 2500 Hybrid.

The Pathfinder 2500 Hybrid is built for anglers who refuse to be limited to one style of boating.
