When a shipment needs 20 crates, whose work gets put on hold to build them?

For a plant that makes its own shipping crates, that order also means cutting material, assembling boxes, and finding employees to do the work.

If those employees also handle production, maintenance, or shipping, someone has to rearrange the day to get the crates finished. The lumber cost alone doesn’t capture that tradeoff.

Making crates in-house may work when demand is manageable. A larger order can make the time and labor involved harder to absorb.

Stretch wrap and straps shouldn’t be doing all the work.

When a product doesn’t sit securely on its pallet, it can shift in transit, take longer to position, and require extra packaging just to keep it in place.

The plywood cleat shown here creates a physical guide for the product. Depending on the application, cleats can improve placement, speed up loading, limit sideways movement, and provide better protection for machinery, containers, or odd-shaped items.
