Afternoon storms will be isolated, with a few hailers possible. This evening (around 5pm), storms will be more widespread! While most hailstones will be golf balls or smaller, do not be surprised if we squeeze out an isolated baseball or two!

OVER A FOOT OF SNOW POSSIBLE IN OKLAHOMA?!

The GFS model often comes in a bit hot with snowfall totals with a storm system like this, but it does depict attainable ceilings for snow events. This run shows a blob of 12-16” from central Oklahoma into Arkansas, including Oklahoma City to Little Rock! This would be one of the top snowfalls ever for OKC if it verifies.

I have no choice but to chase this snow in my own backyard

⚡ Lightning Capital of the U.S. — 2025 ⚡

It wasn’t Florida.... It was Oklahoma.

A new report from AEM shows Oklahoma averaged 73 lightning flashes per square mile, the highest in the nation. Kay County ranked #1 in the U.S. with 123.4 flashes per square mile. Frequent large thunderstorm complexes (MCSs) helped fuel Oklahoma’s lightning surge.

Lightning density rankings:
1️⃣ Oklahoma
2️⃣ Florida
3️⃣ Louisiana
4️⃣ Texas

Texas recorded the most total strikes (~13 million), but not the highest density.

Probability of Watch Issuance: 40 percent.

SUMMARY: Several storms are expected to develop by late afternoon, and a few may produce hail larger than 1.00” in diameter, accompanied by strong gusts.
