Athearn Blue Box - 54’ PS Covered hopper BNSF 433212.

Used oil paints and chalks to weather the car body, trucks and wheels. Three washes of dark brown oil paint, thinned down. Then brushed on black caulk to get the color variations in the panels and ribs. Wheels and trucks are a mixture of mutual chalks to get the desired effect.

Updated - completed the last step of applying hand cut yellow vinyl to simulate yellow safety strips along the car body as seen in prototype photos.

Athearn Blue Box - 54’ PS Covered hopper BNSF 433212.

Replaced wheels and trucks with Intermountain wheels and Kadee trucks, added Kadee No.5 metal couplers. Added additional weight, car weight is now just under 5 ounces.
