🚨 Scam Alert: Stay Vigilant! 🚨
The Newton Police Department has received an increase in scam reports. Scammers are impersonating organizations like the IRS, Social Security, Amazon, banks, and even law enforcement to trick people into giving out personal information or money.
📌 Common Scam Tactics:
🔹 Callers claim you owe money, there’s an issue with your account, or you've won a prize.
🔹 They may ask for remote access to your computer to “fix” a problem.
🔹 Scammers often demand payment via gift cards or wire transfers.
🔹 They may use fake caller ID information to appear legitimate.
🚫 Protect Yourself:
🔹 Never share your Social Security number, banking details, or other personal info.
🔹 The IRS and Social Security will never call you—they contact by mail.
🔹 Never pay with gift cards—no government agency or business accepts them as payment.
🔹 Don’t allow remote access to your computer—scammers use this to steal your info.
🔹 If a caller pressures you to act immediately, hang up and verify their claims independently.
🚔 Report It:
If you suspect a scam or have been a victim, contact your bank, the Newton Police Department, and the FTC. Stay alert and protect yourself from fraud!
