A clean title is good to see — but it doesn’t automatically mean the car is perfect
When buying a used vehicle, the title is only ONE piece of the puzzle
Here’s what else is worth checking:
1. VEHICLE HISTORY
A clean title and accident history are not exactly the same thing
Look at reported accidents, previous ownership and mileage records to understand more about the vehicle’s past
2. MAINTENANCE HISTORY
Even a clean-title vehicle can suffer from poor maintenance
Ask about:
• Oil changes
• Brake service
• Fluid maintenance
• Major repairs or service
How a vehicle was maintained can make a huge difference
3. CURRENT CONDITION
What matters is the condition of the car TODAY
Check:
• Tires
• Brakes
• Suspension
• Leaks
• Warning lights
• Overall body and interior condition
4. TEST DRIVE IT
A report can give you information about the past
A test drive tells you how the vehicle behaves right now
Pay attention to:
• Engine behavior
• Transmission shifts
• Steering
• Braking
• Vibrations
• Unusual noises
The takeaway is simple:
TITLE IS ONE PIECE OF THE PUZZLE
HISTORY + CONDITION + MAINTENANCE = THE BIGGER PICTURE
Don’t make a decision based on one line in a report
Look at the whole vehicle
Would YOU buy a clean-title used car without having it inspected first?
